On FIRE @ Southpoint (July 13th 2023)

I wasn’t gonna post this story but fuck it…

So a few days before I left Las Vegas after WSOP, I final tabled a couple of the daily tourneys at Southpoint and had some cash game funds to splash around with

I took 4th on July 13th, and still felt like playing for a bit so I sat right back down at 1/2 NL buying in for 120 bucks

I don’t remember the sequence of hands because honestly this all went down in basically one orbit and it’s kind of a blur

in about 10 minutes or so, that $120.00 was now over a grand, and I’m coloring up my reds to the greenies





Ok sweet…

So its literally 115 degrees outside, but I take a quick break to head out to my car for an herbal refreshment and to kind of process how sick that mini heater really was

Before I head back to play, I’m having a smoke near the entrance just trying to make a good decision and be less impulsive

hmmm do I keep playing, or book the win and get ready to head back to the coast

I opt for the safe bet, and walk back to my table to rack up and cash out feeling good about life, of course stoked about the unexpected sun run

So I start strolling back to my car parked literally in the first row outside the south entrance…

Its weird because the windows are all fogged up, but its 115 degrees outside what the hell

I open the driver door and boooom a big fucking cloud of smoke comes billowing out and my passenger seat is literally glowing orange embers

I had a towel on the seat and obviously one of the bud coals fell off my Red Bull can and started smoldering

I’m literally 2 or 3 minutes away from the entire car catching on fire and theres no water anywhere to put it out

this couple is driving by and Im like do you have any water and they of course don’t so I start frantically squirting the embers with my Windex bottle just praying it doesn’t burst into flames

the towel is just a bunch of ashes I had tossed on the rocks next to my parking spot and they are still smoldering sending a nice plume of smoke into the air

anyway its a miracle that the fire department didn’t show up, and honestly it’s like it never happened except for this…

The key underlying factor of the story…

It occurred to me right after extinguishing the seat soaking it with Windex, that if I had decided to settle in for some more poker with a monster stack…

my entire car would have been engulfed in flames and I’m totally screwed

99% of the time I’m going to ride the rush, so just the fact I cashed out in the first place was a statistical anomaly

actually after that realization sunk in, I didn’t give a shit about the seat anymore.

In fact, I was thinking damn how good am I running today

I can’t justify carting around a giant fucking glass bong or burning big ass Bob Marley doobs

poke a few holes, take a couple rips

easy peasy japanesy then just crumple it up and toss in the trash

my car is in pristine condition for a 2014 and smells quite nice

the seat was replaced for less than $200.00 the day after I got home
