That is easy money, there's no way he deserves to die in prison. Say what you will about sbf, he shared the wealth generously. I respect that.
I think 10- years would be fair but with our draconian system that seems unlikely, maybe a pardon?

Good bet, but I’d be happy to take that action. I’d invest the $25, get a much higher rate of return, and pay you the $50 in 20 years. Easy money.

he was on his way to dismissals + probation before he fucked around with that VPN and got remanded. that kinda changed everything.

page 112 is where i officially gave up.

alameda miraculously becomes 'profitable' thanks to the sort of book keeping that enron lacked the balls to even try and lewis literally dedicating whole ass pages to letting sam tar and feather the people who called him an incompetent grifter.

this might be the first lewis book i simply cant finish.

Did not finish. There, I said it.

I was enthusiastic early on then simply lost the will.

Sentencing is scheduled for next week. March 28h. Prosecutors seeking 40-50.

FTX CEO John Ray urges a more lenient sentence

The DoJ's 40 to 50-year sentencing recommendation is too harsh, he added: "Crushing Sam in this way is unnecessary."

sonatine actually fooled me with the Caroline post. I believed it was possible. I also thought it was from today and not November.

Even this February 2024 article agrees: https://www.ccn.com/news/caroline-el...-inner-circle/

Female privilege in the justice system is sweet, especially if you're white. But I'll wait until the actual sentence before commenting further.

I don’t know about any justice but she cut a deal and flipped on SBF. The game is the game

It will probably be a combo of both factors.

It is tough to get stiff sentences against young white women. While Caroline isn’t attractive, the nerdy thing works in her favor. Just very tough for judges to properly see her as a criminal, especially since she can claim she was just under SBF’s spell.

To me it would be a miscarriage of justice if she sees little or no time behind bars.

This case is high profile, so we will see.

On an every day crime, I’d 100% rather be a poor woman of any color rather than a top 10% male. Top 1% gets a better deal probably as long as it’s not sexual.

I’ve known women get a series of 4 or 5 charges with continued probation and never a moment in jail while men would have been in jail on the first offense.

It’s the biggest disparity in the justice system. Way more than white/black wealthy/broke.

I’m talking non-violent crimes. They can steal a few hundred k and the average sentence is probation if it’s embezzlement type crime.

On drugs, they have to be arrested 5 or 6 times before imprisonment.

They really get a pass from the justice system.

Judge Kaplan: It is the judgment of the court that you are sentenced to 240 months then consecutive 60 [etc] for a total of 300 months [25 years]
