I felt that it was a big mistake by the Tories to dump Boris Johnson as he had excellent chances of defeating the tailor's dummy that's currently leading Labour. A year ago Rishi Sunak looked like an obvious PM-in-waiting but there followed a string of revelations about his extreme wealth, US citizenship, and the fact that his wife was domiciled in India for tax avoidance purposes. These own goals sunk him in the leadership contest and the Tory grandees were willing to give Liz Truss a chance. Unfortunately she's looked completely out of her depth from day one and has failed to establish any sort of authority. The party now senses a loser and so she's unceremoniously dumped. The talk now is whether BoJo will make a comeback but he's still young in political terms (58). Given the current economic shitstorm he'd inherit he may decide to play the long game and plot a return in a few years time.
