    Fall Foliage 2022/ Splits new home.

    Best colors should be next week but today was a gorgeous day so I went with it. I live within 100 ft of one of these images.

    As far as the farm goes, they took a verbal agreement then backpedaled for more than I wanted to dig in for. I was sad but put it in the Lordís hands. He didnít grant what I wanted, but surely gave me what I needed. I am thankful for every day I live in this peaceful paradise. The hounds and I walk miles daily. The following pics are from those travels.

    I took a chance on my new house, walked in, saw good bones, and gave an immediate cash offer which was immediately accepted. I am very lucky to not have a money pit house. It is very old but solid. The original hardwood floors are not piss stained as tine dummy suggests, just stained from age and spills. I have done many projects already in this home and more to come. Itís up 50% since I bought and will easily double or more in value by the time I finish.

    For chaps, a barred owl feather found in my backyard. I saw him once, stands about 2 ft tall and sings to his sweetheart at night. Beautiful.

    Being from the southwestern US, we do not get things like this.

    I attempted to make two fall foliage trips to New England, but neither worked out very well.

    In 2007, I was arriving a bit early for it (I had no choice, as I was combining it with another reason I was going east), and then it was unusually warm that fall, so foliage had not really changed much yet. I only found it when I went to higher elevations, where it begins earlier.

    In 2013, I made a trip specifically for this, and researched exactly when to arrive, though there's some variance due to weather. Fortunately I arrived during peak fall foliage colors. However, 2 days before I got there, a major wind storm blew all the leaves off the trees. Fail.

    Maybe I'll try again sometime, but it's a lot harder to come in October than it used to be, because my kid is older now, and it's not trivial for him to miss school. Oh well. I guess I'll have to be one of those old guys who does it when his kids are grown.

    Last year I drove from Montana to Maine on a fall colors tour. Also hit the east cost casinos going and coming. Best colors I seen were in Vermont.

    In Montana the best fall colors are up around Glacier Park. I made that tour this year. It was cloudy and rainy but still got some good shots. Going To The Sun Road runs east/west thru the Park. Ran into fog at the top of Logan Pass which ruined the view for most of the way down the west slope. I'll have to drive it again next year.

    Took a trip up to the Fryeburg Fair in Maine. Colors were near peak. The entire ride I’m saying, “wow, look at that”. Never got old.

    Oxen & horse pulling. Livestock judging. All that 4-H stuff. Not usually my thing but I’m trying to be a better person with mixed results. The fair-goers were clearly rural Mainers. Men weren’t wearing skinny jeans and sporting mustaches, for instance.

    Trump habitat.

    We find we are enjoying very rural destinations these days. Places unspoiled by speculators and development. Restaurants are especially more interesting and real. The whole experience is uplifting.

    On our 2007 foliage trip, we passed through a small town in New Hampshire. It was Friday night, and the entire town was having a rally for the high school football team.

    We pulled over and joined it. I was a bit worried they'd recognize that we weren't from there, but if they did, nobody cared.

    Was fun. They were handing out corn on the cob and other food, we cheered along with everyone else, and for a short time, I felt like I was really part of the town.

    Would do again.

    Nice, did you get the crops in on time and are the buildings in shape to protect the herds from the
    inevitable Arctic blast?

    Also, I would love to hear your take on Ukraine, in particular efforts by allies dedicated to life, liberty and decisions based on the profit motive.

    What would Ronny Reagan do? Do you avoid a potential money pit or fight evil at every opportunity?
    Republicans in general seem to be torn.
