PokerSasha aka Sasha Liu alleges GGPoker fired her as ambassador because she is a "married mom of twin boys"

It's always interesting to see how people handle the news that the site they were promoting no longer wants them. Similar to romantic breakups, sometimes there's quiet understanding and acceptance, and other times there's anger and vitriol.

In 2018, Pokerstars fired both Vanessa Selbst and Jason Mercier, presumably because both were American players who didn't bring much promotional value to the non-US-facing site. Selbst took it very poorly, whereas Mercier and Pokerstars had a lovefest on the way out.

Earlier this year, Vanessa Kade seems to have left ACR on her own, following her constant irritation with CEO Phil Nagy, who has faced allegations from multiple women regarding his behavior. Kade had long been hassling GGPoker for hiring "misogynist" Dan Blizerian as an ambassador, and her representing Nagy's ACR was a constant source of allegations of her hypocrisy.

In 2015, Pokerstars abruptly terminated 2010 WSOP Main Event champ Jonathan Duhamel after he faced his own set of allegations regarding questionable behavior. Rather than beat around the bush, Pokerstars directly said, "We won't be working together in the future." Ouch.

Other partnerships have ended more amicably, even when there may have been some bad blood on both sides. Daniel Negreanu was seemingly fired or non-renewed from Pokerstars rather abruptly, to where he had to take time out on his honeymoon to announce he was no longer an ambassador! However, while he seemed irritated in the announcement video, he stopped short of criticizing Pokerstars, and they did not criticize him. He then moved on to a lucrative partnership with GGPoker, where he remains today.

Poker players often stay quiet when a partnership is terminated, even if miffed, knowing that it will look bad to bash their former sponsor if they want to get others in the future.

However, sometimes they just can't stay silent. Sasha Liu, aka "Poker Sasha", is the latest example of this:

Sasha is a PLO specialist. Almost four years ago, she posted on Twitter that she quit a job as a "6 figure executive" to become a poker pro:

So is it true? Did GGPoker terminate her because she's a married mom of twins, and is therefore no longer viable marketing-wise? I'll discuss that in my next post.

There's no way to know why GGPoker ended their sponsorship of Sasha Liu. It looks like she was only brought on six months ago, as this advertorial dated March 22 said that she had just joined the team.

Usually these contracts are a year long, so perhaps GGPoker signed her for just half a year, on a trial basis.

However, let's look at Sasha's potential value as a sponsored pro:

    - Her Hendonmob only has $316k worth of cashes

    - She has only 10,000 followers on Twitter

    - She has about 11,000 followers on Instagram

    - She is 41 years old

Like many other women who get these sponsorships, Sasha is attractive:

She does indeed have twin babies. Could these twins have anything to do with GGPoker releasing her?

    I doubt it.

The bottom line is that Sasha Liu simply isn't high profile enough. She would not have gotten this position if her name was Steven Liu. Clearly she was given the sponsorship because she's an attractive female who plays PLO professionally.

GGPoker probably took a shot with her, hoping perhaps she would blow up -- either becoming highly popular on social media, or winning a big tournament. Neither of these things happened, so they probably decided to cut bait.

While I'm sure Sasha wasn't happy that she was dropped 6 months after being signed, through no fault of her own, I don't feel it's fair to blame it on her marital or motherhood status. I think they were just looking at their marketing budget, and decided she just didn't have the following to be worth continuing with a sponsorship.

Sasha should consider the fact that her looks and gender were a large part in getting this sponsorship in the first place, so ultimately she can't be too angry if they decided to part ways -- even if it was because she was married and a new mom, like she alleges.

Maybe thats why ACR cant get its shit together from its constant fail (although after this past weekend Pokerstars sure wanted to give ACR a run for its money as a failsite with the tournament crashes and such).

She does indeed have twin babies. It is likely that this was an IVF birth, due to her age and the fact that they were twins. But no matter. Could these twins have anything to do with GGPoker releasing her?

Yesterday though Kyna England was hired as an Ambassador by ClubGG and I'm sorry but she is definitely not attractive. I also really don't understand this move as she is not really a big name. Has some nice results the past 18 months but I'm not sure I understand this partnership at all.

Club GG is partly like Club WPT. But the other part is a pretty sketchy gray area poker app. Which must be lucrative, but is pretty strange to me that GG would mess around with being associated with these app games. They probably have their hands clean because the money isn’t transferred through the site, but through agents. Maybe they think the normalization of real money play will lead to legalization faster. But I’m just speculating.

I think the signing of this Kyna chick was partly because she isn’t the stereotypical attractive girl who gets the gig. She won’t be using her sex appeal, but she can still bring them value. It’s a “Poker is for everyone” type move. Soccer moms fire up that Club GG app and blast off a few hunny during that boring PTA meeting.

As for Sasha, she was friendly with Joey Ingram & Barry Greenstein. I remember her being on Joey’s show for a period of time. When Barry was on his show he mentioned that Sasha asked him to come on the show. She would come up on my Twitter feed lately and I didn’t see her really promoting GG. I suspect she could of kept her gig if she put a little more into it.

Can’t feel bad for Sasha though. Nagy has mucho colones. She will probably end up with more dough by getting let go.
