I can say unequivocally that Kansas City is at minimum in the top three worst major cities in the United States. The only reason I can't objectively declare it number one is having not spent enough time in Cleveland or Detroit.

Seriously, it has all the soulless characteristics of most Midwestern cities but it's combined with overwhelming poverty, crime, and just in general third-worldness. There are entire areas the city has given up on that look indistinguishable from the clips one sees of violent tornado aftermath videos. Calling the city a hellscape would be a compliment. Every time I've had to venture to that place I find it impossible to comprehend how people could choose to live there -- the theory I've came up with is that it's where all of the pussies, criminals, weak etc. congregated after being thrown off the wagons or backing out when heading west from St. Louis back in the day.
