Landon Tice agrees to spend a year at Bally's/Paris for $100k

I hate having two Landon Tice threads here within days of one another, but here we are. Last week, Landon embarrassed himself by promoting -EV slots on his well-followed Twitter.

Now, Landon and European poker pro Patrick Leonard have an agreement in theory to do a $100k prop bet regarding Landon living at Bally's/Paris.

    https://twitter.com/#!/x/status/1554661942412713985

Some questions came up. Could Landon use the pool, or would that be off-limits?

    https://twitter.com/#!/x/status/1554666737034878976

Someone brought up the question of the cost of Bally's. Staying there 365 nights would possibly eat up more than half the $100k, and Landon is expected to pay for it!

Patrick is dreaming if he thinks Bally's is going to cut him Landon much of a deal for this. That's not really how casinos work. This may ultimately kill the bet.

If the bet does happen, the terms will be something like:

    - Landon cannot leave Bally's/Paris for a full year
    - He can access everything on property, but has to be on one foot (??) while on the balcony
    - He can't swim in the pool, but can go to it
    - Other than the balcony/pool restrictions, he can do whatever he wants while there
    - Landon must pay for his own stay

This isn't quite the same, but Mark Newhouse lived at the Commerce Casino hotel in the late 2000s. He had some kind of special deal with them to allow this for fairly cheap. However, of course he wasn't under any restriction from leaving.

The longest I've spent indoors in my life without setting foot outside occurred at a Caesars property in 2015. I stayed at Harrah's Rincon (San Diego area) for 5 straight days, and never once set foot outside the building. I was grinding video poker so I could get to Seven Stars, and also did radio one night, but I did not exit the building at any point. This wasn't intentional. I admit that it felt good to be outside again when this was over.

2008 article. I’m sure it’s $75-100k in todays dollars. Jayjami or Tellafriend might help here.

In theory, a year of human life is priceless. In reality, it's worth $50,000.

That's the international standard most private and government-run health insurance plans worldwide use to determine whether to cover a new medical procedure.
So this would be the least generous assessment of your time.

During Covid - Trump’s $600 UBI & basic state unemployment put you at $1000/wk. $52,000 to watch Netflix. Again, the least amount of money to prevent folks from rioting.

I only briefly skimmed so I gotta be missing something. Who on earth would do this for so little?

Living in a casino and sitting at a poker table for a year would be like living in suspended animation. Except for the loss of life.

What a lunatic. I wouldn't consider doing this for less than a million even if I were single and childless, all expenses paid.

For the few here with homes and lives, what would it take to get you to do this?

One surprising thing about Landon doing this is that it will put an end to his hangouts with Matt Berkey and his crew. Berkey seems to have almost adopted Landon as a son, and not only backs him, but also hired him as a coach for Solve for Why, hangs out with him, has Landon as a part of his YouTube show in the studio, etc. If Landon holes up in Bally's for a year, that's all done.

There's some moderate interest in Landon's story and poker career from the public, so why limit himself to this dumb gimmick for a full year? People will get bored of this really fast. It's not like people will be riveted to their screens to find out what Landon is doing on day 194 of the challenge.

I agree this sounds awful. It would be hard to get through a month of this. Forget a year. Now, it's true that he can grind online poker, talk on the phone, text, talk on Facetime, and even hire hookers to the room if he wants. It's not like being in jail. But still... this sounds very unpleasant for an unspectacular amount of money, especially when you subtract the hotel cost!

A year in prison would offer better companionship than a casino

Bally's is changing it's name to Horseshoe.

    Was Horseshit taken?

Different name but still the shitty hotel you'd expect.

Yea, I'm not sure how this promotes the casino. Lets go to the casino where this kid who loves grinding poker has been living a year! Geez what a sales-pitch.

I guess there is a poker room in Ballys off-season?

The podcast could move to his hotel room on certain days. Perhaps that lounge area on the edge of the casino floor? Getting permission to film that show is likely far easier than getting a room for a year.

BTW I once watched a few minutes of Solve4Why show ... and well that was it lol.

In my humble opinion I don't see Ballys (or any other major casino) agreeing to this, maybe even flat out not allowing it. Does not look good for a 'pro' poker player to not want to jump at the chance to live in a casino. Also imagine the vlogs, kid will be talking about how much he hates the place and all the things that annoy him about the property, even if the vlogs starts off putting the casino in good-light wont take but a few months before its just a highlight reel of every reason no body would want to do this(or stay at Ballys at all for any length of time), even for hundred of thousands of dollars in profit.

Also imagine if the kid gets hooked on slots or baccarat and totally degens out of boredom, or depression/mental disorders, or worse drugs or alcohol, overdose etc., The many possible negative outcomes outweigh the good marketing opportunities by far. Casino knows this, the would have already had a live-in sponsored pro vlog relationship if it was feasibly good for marketing and promotion.

If it got to 500k + expenses covered outside of gambling money, I would think about it.

    per the above line, there are some legal details to be taken care of...Tice can only stay 30 days as a hotel guest, then he will have to sign a lease most likely...most Nevada hotels a licensed as transient stay locations, and thus room tax can be charged...after 30 days, the occupant becomes a Nevada resident, and no hotel room tax can be charged him;
(long before there was a PFA i had my Grenade & Crossbones avatar at DD)

Oh I forgot about that, but you're right.

Our own AHoosierA got fucked by this whole thing, in fact it was at Bally's.

I literally know nothing about this guy outside of this thread, but this dude seems insane and has no absolutely zero concept of money or something. What am I missing here?

100k? LOL, that seems absolutely ridiculously small for having to stay for a year without leaving.

    IMO - fuck. that.

I can't even see a casino going for that deal.

I only glanced this thread so I don't know if this was covered, but is one of the stipulations that he has to play a certain amount of time? How long before mental health issues start setting in and he chunks off the money that he is still waiting to earn from the bet while staying there?

Is it 100K after taxes or no lol?

    What expenses are paid?

Personally, id maybe start considering if it were all expenses paid, and it was close to or at least the $1 million range depending on the details. I have a wife and a kid but if it meant a nice chunk of money for them for me sacrificing a year of my time, id maybe consider it.

He doesn't have to play at all.

He can do what he wants with the year at Bally's.

He just can't leave the Bally's/Paris property.

Can he be on his balcony in a wheel-chair? Might have just blown his angle..

..guess it wont work well if the stipulation is he needs 1 foot on floor at all times.
