Massive panic on LV strip as reports of active shooter at several casinos send people tramping each other to exit, WSOP in shambles

Huge story out of the Vegas strip right now.

First a glass door shattered at MGM, and it was believed that there was an active shooter. People panicked, took cover, and scambled out the the street, some trampling one another.

But it didn't stop there. Reports of active shooters quickly spread to other casinos -- Aria, New York New York, Paris, Bally's, and several others.

In the Paris ballroom where the WSOP was taking place (the Main Event was already over earlier in the day), they were discussing the rumors about the MGM shooting, and all of a sudden loud "pops" were heard somewhere in or near the ballroom. Everyone simultaneously stood up, ran for the exits, and trampled one another. Most of these players were in Day 1B of "The Closer" -- an event I played earlier today, but busted early thanks to a super cooler. I was off-strip and not present for any of this, but I'm still in Vegas.

The current story going around is that this was a prank. Supposedly some teens were throwing rocks at the MGM Grand door to simulate gunfire, and then went around to various strip properties and set off firecrackers.

This might or might not be true. However, it does seem clear that there was no shooter anywhere.

Crazy. I'm sure more clarity will be had in the coming days.



Had I not busted early from that Closer event, I would have been among the crowd running for their lives from Paris, and possibly would have been trampled. That's $1500 I'm glad I lost.

Apparently there's a problem bagging chips for Day 1B of the closer.

Not only are some of the stacks messed up due to bumped/overturned tables, but some players ran away from Paris/Bally's, and won't be back in time to bag.

I'd say I got pretty lucky to not be in this pandemonium. I had been @ Aria earlier in the day playing a tournament and was scheduled to work on the strip later that evening but had called off.

It's confusing to me how a rock being thrown at a door/window (Florida ceiling window?) @ MGM could cause mass hysteria as far down as Bally's. I understand people have reported hearing firecrackers as well? But at 5+ different properties?

Then, the conspiracy theorist side of me wonders if this was somewhat orchestrated by a group to see how people would react and where people would flee too in a tightly compacted space such as the strip.
