This won't affect anything. Rio is next month & GSP vs Condit is in December. It's basically a stay busy, get an easy payday fight for Silva.

Im not sure you appreciate the physical implications of moving to 205 to fight.

The reason fighters like GSP along with top boxers generally refuse to move up is because its a one-way ticket. Your twitch time is permanently impacted, the body does not just go back to "normal" when you drop back down. Silva moved up once, fought for about 60 seconds, and never went back. So to hear hes returning to 205 is actually pretty substantial news.

Perhaps hes just stepping up to help out Zuffa, I wonder.

He's moved up to 205 twice. Once to fight Irvin & then to fight Forrest Griffin. I just don't think it's a big deal for him. He just has to cut less weight & I don't think Bonnar is a threat to him at any weight.

I suspect he's just helping out the promotion & showing his offer to save the 151 card was sincere & not a PR move.

I agree. They needed a headliner & took him up on his offer I'm suspecting.

Anderson walks around at 220, he wont be putting on any mass for this fight just like he didnt the two other times he fought at 205. He just wont have to cut weight, this will have no impact on him going forward. Like hockey guy said, a pay day and fight while he waits and hope GSP beats Condit then those 2 will probably put together the biggest fight in UFC history.

Fuck Condit. Its a shame that GSP has never fought Diaz.

I think that fight is almost a sure thing in 2013.

    Absolutely, 100%.

Its not just the layoff, the bother is no longer young.

Yup, it's gotta. Ring rust has proven to be a real thing over and over again. I still think he can get through Condit provided his leg has healed and his wrestling is anywhere close to where it used to be. Carlos has never had the best takedown D and that's a pretty big hole against GSP.

What a joke of a fight. Its debatable whetehr Bonnar should even be in a ufc payperview card.

Layoff will not only hurt GSP but he is also beginning to get old which can be a big factor for someone who relies on athlectic ability.

EDIT oops already see sonatine posted this.

Its at the point where we cant get excited for a fight until they both show up at the weigh ins. Roger Goodell needs to put a stop to the excessive sparring in camps. What happened to the days of blackhouse (I think thats the gym) where guys like The axe murderer would beat the fuck out of each other and still actually show up for the fight. They need to start hitting them in their wallets if they want them to train smart and actually fight.

This main event is beyond retarted. Silva will only fight bums at lhw. Bonnar is such a company man that if he did have a chance to finish Silva he wouldnt do it to keep Uncle Dana happy.

i think the argument has to be raised eventually that this is really the chickens coming home to roost because of how high dana has raised the stakes for fighters careers.

its an absurdly high pressure environment it seems, what with the relentless influx of TUF talent and his willingness to emphasize showmanship over dedication and talent.

the sport is suffering. more than usual.

lines opened at Silva -1350 and Bonnar at +850. I smell something fishy. Is there a mob in Brazil? If so, bet the house on Stephan.

the mob you have to worry about would be the ones hamstringing bonnar with rusty box cutters on his way out of the cage if he lucky-touched silva.
