I hear pretty much the same story from a long list of world travellers. The beach is about the only thing going on in South Florida which reflects on a dull metropolis and it's inhabitants.
Fast food is available in any town and state. Big whoop.
The city and state cater to the newly wed and nearly dead. Miami has been described as a Carnival Cruise without the boat.
Also, Miami is supposed to be the crown jewel in a pick up full of stolen goods communities.

Miami sucks. There are only a few things decent about the place - and none of them make up for the high costs for most stuff.
Couple good restaurants and some really nice, really expensive clubs. Other than the beach, I can’t think of another reason I’d want to visit. If anything I’d classify it among the places I’d rather live than vacation, but I wouldn’t choose to do either again. The poker is ok for big bet players and less ok for mix players. No straight limit games

I actually don't have a problem with Gun Buy Back Programs because they are voluntary, not mandatory. If they are no questions asked and no consequences, then perhaps some illegal guns get off the streets. This is a good thing. But, any lawful gun owner with half a brain will sell it to a Pawn Shop or Gun Range for value.
