WSOP Circuit ring winner Mohammed Moeini murdered at his business over money dispute

Mohammed Moeini, known in Biloxi poker circles as "Moe", was murdered at the motel he owned, over a dispute involving money.

On Wednesday, April 27, 32-year-old Jeremy Alesunder Reynolds got in an argument with Moeini over money, and shot him dead. He also killed two other employees at the Broadway Inn Express, which was owned by Moeini. It is not clear what the money matter was about, and it's not clear if Reynolds was an employee or guest there at any point. This occurred in Bixoxi, Mississippi.

Reynolds also carjacked a public works staffer and killed him in the process, while attempting to escape. Police caught up with him, and he barricaded himself in a supermarket, before likely shooting himself dead. He was found dead after a few hours, but police aren't releasing the cause.

Here is Reynolds, now deceased, in a mugshot from a previous crime:

    Here is Mohammed Moeini:

Moeini is the second poker player to have been murdered in recent weeks. On April 4, late 2000s shortstacking specialist Lorin Yelle was murdered in a wrong-place-wrong-time incident at a gas station. However, in this case Moeini knew his attacker, whereas Yelle was killed by a complete stranger.

Broadway Inn Express has very poor reviews online, earning a horrendous 1.5 stars on Tripadvisor, 2.2 stars on Google Reviews, and 1 star on Yelp. It is frequently cited to be dirty and full of roaches, and that its location near the beach is its only asset. I do wonder if Reynolds was a former guest there, perhaps staying there weekly, who was in some sort of dispute over that stay.

Moeini was described by peers in this Pokernews article to be a friendly and nice guy at the tables. While I believe that, it's possible that running a dirty, low-end motel was his undoing, possibly due to the clientele who frequented it.

I am not saying the situation was Moe's fault at all. It was 100% the fault of the psycho who murdered 4 people. However, this is a cautionary tale of the dangers of running a business where the expected clientele can be dangerous and/or unstable.

    Moeini was 51 years old.

    RIP

I've never understood why some of these people who own one or a few motels don't try harder to keep them clean. I once read the YELP reviews for some of the motels/hotels here in the OC near my office and the beach and it was pretty disgusting, including drug needles found under the mattresses, etc.

If I invested some major $$ in a motel I'd be there nightly with a vacuum and broom myself if necessary just to protect the investment.

    Anyway RIP to Mohammed

New details regarding the killer's death: https://www.wtok.com/2022/04/28/insi...lice-standoff/

Basically after committing the 4 murders, the guy ran into a store and battled with the owner and the owner's cousin. The killer announced that, "We're all going to die today", causing the owner to fight for his life, and the cousin to run up behind and attempt to help.

I'm not sure what happened to the gun, but it didn't figure into any of this. Jeremy Reynolds, the killer, eventually ran into a storage room, and set a fire somewhere. He seems to have died from smoke inhalation, as there were no wounds on his dead body, other than from the fight.

They still have not revealed exactly what Reynolds' motive was for the three motel murders, aside from "an argument about money".
