It is theorized that Twitter was either artificially reporting lower follower counts than really existed, or that Twitter was purposely not recommending follows of major conservative figures, even when a neutral algorithm would have otherwise suggested such a thing under normal circumstances. Now that Elon is probably taking over, the guess is that Twitter has frantically undone these shenanigans, so nobody will ever know about it.
