Southwest Passenger does his best Jeffrey Toobin imitation on an airplane!

    Cliffs:

    1) Male Passenger masterbates 4 times on a flight
    2) Doesn't think he did anything wrong and thought it was kind of kinky
    3) Passenger actually asked female sitting next to him if she minded

Unless you're dirt poor, flying on discount airlines is one of the biggest travel mistakes you can make.

Gotta disagree. I fly almost exclusively Southwest and have had little to no problem ever (like I can’t think of one). I’ve had to have saved ten thousands dollars or more through the years.
It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

You've run very well, then. Southwest has extremely rigid policies and will fuck you if anything slightly out of the ordinary occurs.

Furthermore, they've done some nasty things to people over the years. In 2014, a bitchy gate agent was mad that a passenger tweeted about poor service he had from her, so she removed the guy and his entire family from the flight being boarded as a "safety threat". She said he could only get back on if he deleted the tweet, which he finally did.

I made two attempts to fly Southwest, 15 years apart. I got fucked in different ways in both of them.

Southwest and other discount airlines also attract a trashier caliber of passenger, which makes it more likely you're going to run into problem people on the flight.

SW is known for being very flexible. Great customer service. No change fees. No bag fees. Low cost.

I suppose I’ve been very lucky. But I don’t know anyone personally who’s ever had trouble with them.

Spirit and some of the other budget airlines are complete garbage. Southwest has been nothing short of amazing for me.

In fact SW is rated as the 2nd best airline overall in the US!

Spirit is the nut low, but Frontier to Vegas can’t be beat for the price. You just gotta lower your expectations.

Yes, if you bring your expectations WAY low, and know what you're getting into, I suppose that's fine. But people really seem to expect that they're getting just a "no frills" airline for a much cheaper price, and it's far beyond that.

The "seat pitch" on Spirit is only 28 inches -- which is uncomfortable for adults who are 5'6", and impossible to keep your legs straight for someone of my height (or anywhere near my height).

Frontier's pitch is 28-31, depending upon the seat.

Southwest has a 31-32 inch pitch, which is standard. However, "standard" has been shrinking over the years, even though US men are rapidly getting taller on average.

With Jsearles here. I have flown SA a few times and can't recall a difference. Did have a leg on a Spirit flight to Wyoming once, and while the interior of the plane was notably worn down no other difference.

There's some variation in first class on some domestic airlines, but IMO all domestic airlines are awful and I never bother to go for one over another, especially now with a kid and every flight is horrible beyond imagination regardless.

Huge differences obv when flying internationally in terms of space, comfort, food, etc.

I forget how tall you are. I think I remember you saying you're somewhere around average. If so, that does help somewhat regarding the ability to be comfortable on a discount airline.

However, ignoring that, the discount airlines are one of those things where they can be okay as long as nothing out-of- the-ordinary happens. Basically they view you as trash and you'll get zero customer service. As cheap as I am, I'll pay extra to not deal with companies like that.

There's also the issue of the clientele on the plane with you. The discount airlines really do have the nut low of airline passengers. I'll pay extra to avoid that, too.

5'11". Ideally I'm never approached by a flight attendant so don't care about that.

Do run the risk of shittier passengers.

Still usually go with one of the big ones but would jew it up for a significant price break, especially now paying for three and being the asshole with a kid.

    Internationally I cough up

JETBLUE MAKES $3.6B OFFER TO BUY SPIRIT AIRLINES: NY TIMES

while flying under the radar, Jet Blue has turned into the nut low and their seats remind me of what I imagine you’d find on some troop transport plane.

    This merger seems a natural.
