Since Sanlmar asked for a trip report about Foxwood here goes:
When this place 1st opened in the 90's it was quite a spectacle. They had it all including captive audiences from New England, New York and probably Pennsylvania. The restaurants were 1st class as well as the service and the comps were very generous. Now, there are 2 casinos in MA as well as a bunch of them in NY and PA. When my daughters were younger the wife and I would frequently take them there for the Friday night buffet which included crab legs which we all loved. Then wife and kids would go to arcade while I played craps then relieved the wife so she could go play slots.
Over the years things at Foxwoods that once seemed special were not so anymore. The pandemic crushed what was left of the good Foxwoods. Pre pandemic they had THE best poker room on the east coast and had daily tournaments that were cheap and drew huge crowds. They had a cashiers cage right in the room and the line was fast enough. They've since moved the room and there is no cage. You have to walk through the casino and stand on line with all the shleps from the tables and machines. The buffet is gone.
I think the comps are ok. They're presently offering me a free room for 3 nights a week Sun-Wed as they did in 2020 which is nice if you want to play multiple days and not burn more $5 gas than necessary. I had a 1 night reservation last night but decided to come home around 10pm instead. I went there with $700 yesterday and came home with $810ish. My poker session was lousy. I wound up losing the rest of my buy-in after about 5 hours in a flush over flush hand. It was one of those sessions where I ran poorly and didn't enjoy myself as much as I would like.
I proceeded to take $200 to the craps table after my poker misery. There were 3 $10 tables completely jammed and 1 $25 table empty. After unsuccessfully trying to nudge my way onto a $10 I would up the only player at the $25. I play from the don't. I come out with the 6, lay $120 then 7 out. I then proceeded to make 2 or 3 more bets and won them all. I look down at my chips and my $200 is now $435 so I bounce from craps happy to make up a lot of my poker loss.
Foxwoods in addition to the free room gives me $25 free slot play whenever I go so before leaving for the night I take advantage of this and win another $200+ on one of those quick hit machines. My gambling over for the night I decide I'm hungry. The Tuesday night options are Subway and Regina Pizza. Truly pathetic though it is Tuesday. I was told they're building a water park where the poker room is now and that it'll be moving to the opposite end of the property. Where the arcade once was there is now a draft kings sports book/bar. I decided to just come home rather than spend the night since I forgot to bring anything for swimming in the hotel pool and I'm concerned Wednesday morning coffee might take more effort than it should. Today I'll be playing in Salem, NH where they have high hand promotion $400 an hour. The only "promotion" now at Foxwood is the bad beat which stands at $390,000 or so as of now. You have to lose with quad 8's or better to win the bad beat.
I think it was Sanlmar who said Foxwoods is now the Walmart of casinos and I have to agree. Maybe it gets better in the future and with this coming water park though I tend to doubt it.
FYI I always play from the don't at the craps table and always bet the max on any slot machine I sit down at.
Hope I didn't bore anyone though I do realize you all have the option not to read. Wishing you all a nice day. Off to Salem where I hope to run a little better today.
