As you might know Zelensky gets long standing ovations in the EU and got one here before Congress. And the Press and Twitter mob are hammering the small number of members of Congress that did not stand and clap for Zelensky while most clapped like seals for several minutes.

This reminds me of a story Alexander Solzhenitsyn told in The Gulag Archipelago.

It was the 30's and purges mostly of older communist members were going on left and right. There was a conference presided over by a new secretary who had replaced the one that had been arrested. At the conclusion a tribute to Stalin was called for. Everyone immediately stood up and started clapping. A standing ovation. One minute, two minutes, three minutes the clapping went on.

Four minutes, five minutes, six minutes. Out of fear no one wanted to be the first to stop clapping. Who would have the courage to be the first to stop? The new Secretary could have done it but he was scared to death because of the old secretary arrested and shipped of to the gulag.

Seven minutes, eight minutes! The Secretary and the leaders up front were not going to quit come hell or high water. Then after eleven minutes one of the leaders up front quit clapping and sat down. Everyone in the room stopped dead in their tracks and sat down.

It was those kind of situations that Stalin determined who the independent thinkers were. Later that night the person that was first to quit clapping was arrested. Ten years in the gulag.

This is what's in store for Americans if the woke mob gets its way. No more independent thinking.

Ironically enough Applebaum has deep ties to Ukraine and her inner circle are the ones who brought about this current bloodbath in Ukraine.
They're the ones cheerleading the war and preventing peace negotiations.

As a young lib, I hated Reagan, but he was 100% right on how to deal with the Russians. He understood their dishonesty was only exceeded by their incompetence. He made the Cold War about money, and brought Russia to its knees by outspending them. So we’ll do the same thing in the Ukraine, just like we did to get them out of Afghanistan. Child prostitution in Ukraine has been described by Juan Miguel Petit, Special Rapporteur on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography for the United Nations, as a major problem in the country. A research publication "2016 Findings on the Worst Forms of Child Labor" prepared by Bureau of International Labor Affairs reports that the Ukrainian children engage in the worst forms of child labor including production of pornography and sex work. Orphaned, homeless, and street children are trafficked both domestically and transnationally. In the past the majority of prostitutes were girls from urban districts. Now most victims of child prostitution in Ukraine come from small towns and rural regions, and prostitution of Ukrainian boys has increased.

The Ukrainian legal system does not provide a clear definition for "prostitution" and "child prostitution". It levies a harsh punishment for the involvement of children into commercial sex work, but their clients are often not prosecuted. As a result, the children become liable for their own exploitation.

The sexual exploitation of children is most obvious in Kyiv and some other big cities. Many children are forced to migrate there to get education and then they are getting involved into Ukrainian sex industry to support themselves. An involvement of Ukrainian adolescent boys into prostitution has risen a number of special concerns.[4]

There is a consistent trend of human trafficking from the Ukraine, especially women and children. International Organization for Migration reports that the Ukraine became one of the major sources of minors and females for their forced sexual exploitation; as a rule they are sold to Balkans, Central Europe and Middle East. An average price of Ukrainian girl is around $2,000 — $10,000 depending on her destination. In Israel a Ukrainian youngster may earn up to $50,000 — $100,000 annually for her pimp and have nothing left for herself.[9] According to the available statistics the number of Ukrainian children involved in prostitution is growing both domestically and abroad.[10] UN Special Rapporteur on the Sale of Children, Child Prostitution and Child Pornography Juan Miguel Petit concluded that the human trafficking and commercial exploitation of children are major problems in the country. After his visit to Ukraine he filed a special report to the UN Human Rights Committee, which says that 10% of the victims of human trafficking are aged between 13 and 18. Children of Ukraine are being exploited in different businesses for example as servants, in street trading, and to provide sex services. A typical model of the human trafficking in Ukraine is that the children are becoming victims of sexual exploitation residing within their country. In the majority of the incidents the Ukrainian criminals lure the potential victims into debt and then force them become prostitutes

An estimation of a total number of female sex workers in Ukraine is around 70,000, 15,000 of them are at the 14–19.[3] A study performed by the Ukrainian Institute for Social Research demonstrated that 11% of Ukrainian women who provide sexual services are aged between 12 and 15 years old, 20% of Ukrainian prostitutes are from 16 to 17 years old. In some registered cases the age of Ukrainian girls involved in prostitution was as low as 10 years old.

There is no data about the age when Ukrainian children enter the sex industry, but there are some statistical data indicating that the average age of "sexual debut" in Ukraine is declining. In general it has dropped to 15-16 years, but for many situations it might be as low as 9-10 years. As to Ukrainian boys, it was reported that 3% of them had their first sexual experience at the age 11 or even earlier. Also a survey of Ukrainian children in the age group of 11-years old has shown that 21% of boys and 5% of girls admitted that they already had their first sexual contact. This situation apparently results from infiltration of Western mass culture of consumerism and degradation of traditional values among young Ukrainians

A Kiwi soldier fighting under Ukraine’s military intelligence says he’s prepared to die.
Kane Te Tai, code name Turtle, is fighting in a secretive reconnaissance unit on Ukraine’s front line in the eastern Donetsk region.
After deaths, injuries and resignations, Te Tai now leads the Foreign Reconnaissance Team after only joining in July.
As Te Tai was interviewed, he had to be careful his phone wasn’t too bright, so as to not give his unit away to any Russian drones flying overhead.
“We live on the line, we just occupy whatever place we can find at the time. If it gets too hot we just find somewhere else,” he told Stuff.
“The last three vehicles we’ve had, in the last month, they’ve been hit with artillery. Holes in the front, s... just smashed through.”
“I remember just looking at everyone in the pit and we all had this look on our faces like, ‘well, the party had to end some time’. We had this feeling of acceptance.”
But, just as the next shell was set to kill the team, it flew off somewhere else and the Russians then began to bomb regressively back along the tree line.
“By divine intervention we missed getting smashed... We all knew we were supposed to die that night.”
“Pretty much from the second they take you into the camp, they don’t tell you what’s going on.
“They operate it like a psychological test, to see if you can be just told what to do and not know any other parameters,” he said.
“When you talk to someone, it’s always a cover story, you’re never talking to who you think you’re talking to,” Te Tai said
“As soon as we pulled up... Dom had no shirt on... he said, ‘let’s do some work’.”

Abelen had put in a good word for him with Ukrainian intelligence, Te Tai said.
He gave Te Tai the code name of Turtle, after he had originally named himself Talon. Talon was too cool, Abelen said
“There’s a high attrition rate either by death, injury, or guys wanting to leave.”
At night Te Tai watches Netflix and YouTube fail compilations to decompress. Sometimes, he hears the Russians shelling, keeping him awake.
“Don’t get me wrong, I don’t find anything glorious about killing young mobilised Russian boys who are crying in their trenches,” he said.
“I’m willing to die, for sure, but I don’t want to die.”
Te Tai has no plans to leave and wants to attend a victory day parade in Kyiv.
“I know we’re going to win, I know that for sure,” he said.
“I’m staying here until I can’t take it any more, or I am dead.”
