    San Juan Puerto Rico

The wife and I will be in San Juan for 4 days next week. We are staying in Old San Juan for two days and Fajardo for two days. Anyone have insider information on can’t miss excursions or food? I’ve read copious amounts online and we have an outline of plans, but welcome any input or suggestions as well.

    Thanks!
It's hilarious that we as a society think everyone can be a dr, a lawyer, an engineer. Some people are just fucking stupid. Why can't we just accept that?

Ha my wife and I will actually be there next week as well. Unfortunately I’m not much help with regards to excursions or food as my wife has planned pretty much everything. I know we’re going on some rainforest hike excursion one day and know we’ll be visiting a casino or two. I think she has a few more activities and restaurant reservations booked but I’ll need to actually read her email to see what and where they are.

What days will you be there?

Last time I was there, casinos were clueless about card counting. This was like 5 years ago but something to keep in mind if you know how to do it.

Lots of scam restaurants aimed at tourists there, so watch out. Make sure you're charged the right prices on the bill, and don't let them bullshit you.

Definitely see the fort downtown San Juan, it's interesting. You can probably walk there.

El Yunque rainforest is decent to do if you have a car and can drive around without a lot of trouble, but if not don't bother.

Went there for a couple days, checked out that Fort, hit the beach…quick drop off in that water.

Wife got food poisoning…probably ate some raw salad, I ate fried chicken….

So the cruise we went on was meh, since she was sick for a few days…I hung out with some lesbian cops most of the first few days.

I actually considered moving there in 05 during the height of the poker boom.

Residents there pay zero federal taxes, so this would have been possibly worth the move.

However, when I learned that the income had to be from money generated locally (meaning offshore poker site income wasn't going to count that way), it wouldn't have done me any good. Plan abandoned.

El Yunque is the rainforest we’re going to, but we do have a car reserved.

Druff do any of the casinos there have sportsbooks? Or poker rooms for that matter? I’ve obviously done very little research.

I think I’m more looking forward to being on a vacation without my kids more than anything.

if that's the way it was then, it certainly isn't now as it's become a destination for the crypto rich (see kane kalas)

U.S. citizens who have lived all year on the island are exempt from filing taxes to the federal government of the United States as long as all of your income was from Puerto Rican sources only. However, if you receive income from anywhere else in the world, including the United States and/or if you are an employee of any agency of the United States in Puerto Rico, you must submit a form to the federal government.

However, capital gains and interest aren't taxed, so crypto falls under that banner. Online poker in 2005 wouldn't have had such an exemption, most likely, because I would have been receiving the money from outside countries.

Stayed at El Conquistador in Fajardo twice. We really enjoyed La Estacion which is right down the street.

Searles - do not do the bioluminescence kayaking excursion in Fajardo. Total scam ripoff. It’s nothing like your led to believe. And it’s a beast of a freaking work out too.

Would recommend the El Yunque rainforest hike as Druff said if you have a car. You have to buy tickets beforehand though to reserve your spot into the park. They are only like $2 but you need them. The Mt. Britton trail at the top is a relatively easy hike with amazing views at the end.

We’re heading to Old San Juan today.

Wanted to try this place tonight. Tried to book reservations online. No luck. Called ahead, no luck. They said come in, they have some open seating. Arrived 90 mins before close and the hostess said they had no more walk ins for the night…….

Drove up the road by some shit holes. Ended up at Rincon Del Faro. Pretty good. Picked out my lobster from hue tank. Whiskey came only in tall glasses.
