Literally days after his special on Christmas Day, HOF Coach John Madden has passed away at the age of 85. His accomplishments are too many to even name at the moment including being the man behind Al Davis Raiders in their heyday. Obviously his move into broadcasting with long time partner Pat Summerall was unmatched for years on Sunday NFL coverage. Finally he obviously was the namesake of the best sports video game franchise in history Madden Football.

I actually did. He already seemed old to me back then (though to be fair, he was still a little older than I am now), but I had no idea that the game series would still be going in 2022.
GOAT color guy, and I don't think its even close. Crazy though how much money he made from the game, basically dwarfing any other income from his entire life:
the legendary NFL coach signed a $150 million deal that allows EA to use his name and likeness in perpetuity. Madden also earns additional millions annually in royalties from the games. But he could’ve earned even more.
When the company’s stock first went public, he was offered an opportunity to buy it for just $7.50 a share. Thinking EA was just trying to milk money out of him, Madden declined. He later called this decision the “dumbest thing [he] ever did in [his] life” — and for good reason.
EA’s stock was priced at $70 by 1999 and reached an all-time high of close to $150 a share in July 2018 — thanks in large part to the franchise that bears Madden’s name and will for the foreseeable future.
