Bally’s Las Vegas Ensures JeffDime doesn’t invoke Tenant’s Rights. Dealing with Stabbings/Shootings next on list.

First off, I want to say this is mainly about my shitty experience at Bally’s Las Vegas. I am not framing this as a PSA. I don’t think they will do this to poker players who stay over 28 days during the WSOP. I think some Paul Blart type got sick of seeing me on the cameras every day and decided to use his/her power to get off on ruining my experience.

Quick background. I had previously spent extended amount of time in Vegas, but was on the East Coast during the pandemic. I finally decided to come out for roughly a month at the end of November. I have status with Caesar’s (Diamond Plus) and have accumulated over 50K tier credits this year, mainly from sports betting. I am down significant money on the Caesar’s App (Well into 5 figures). I like Bally’s because of the value and the proximity to everything else, mainly the Bellagio poker room where I like to play 20-40 limit for fun nowadays.

When I booked the trip I had planned to stay mainly at Bally’s, but with at least two 3 day breaks at the Bellagio/Cosmo to treat myself a bit and stay in the higher-end hotels. I am good at booking shit and getting a great price. I have done well with Caesars in the past and of course they have plenty of problems, but all and all, I’m lucky I am able to do this. I enjoy it.

The first weekend I had the worst Golf Beat of my life. I had roughly 3K on a golfer that was 9-1 and going into the last day with a five stroke lead. This was looking like it may be a great trip. Well, he shit the bed and I had to sleep it off for a few days. I didn’t want to steam off.

At that point rather than move to the Bellagio for a few days, I cancelled that reservation and paid the normal rate to continue to stay at Ballys. Anyone who knows the system realizes that without going to another hotel for a few days, you can’t keep getting the discounted rates. I gladly paid full price as I was bummed by the loss and didn’t feel like moving. In fact I said screw it, I’ll just cancel the Cosmo as well and pay the normal rate for that gap to stay at Ballys for the entire month.

I have stayed in the same hotel in Vegas over a month many times. I typically have my room cleaned everyday. I tip generously. The staff likes me. Patrons come up to me to ask me stuff because apparently I look like I’ve been in a casino before, etc. Even if I’m in a bad state of mind I try never to make that effect how I treat others. I’m not saying I’m the greatest guy in the world. But it’s important to note. I’m not just staying in this joint being an asshole to people.

About a week and a half ago when I got back to my room I got the loudest knock on my door I’ve ever had. This wasn’t one of the annoying housekeeping knocks, this was like an FBI “Open the door now or we are breaking it down” knock. You would think I was being suspected for murder. I asked who it was. It was a man saying “Extended Stay Room Check”. There was a woman with him as well. This reminded me of the wellness checks they instituted after the massacre years back. I think making this seem justifiable and routine was the whole point, although the checks have almost totally been done away with in the Covid era.

I said sure and please give me a second to put on my mask. I wanted to say it’s the middle of the day did you need to knock like that?… but I bit my tongue. It was this Paul Blart looking guy. Most security here are wearing yellow shirts, this guy was a stocky white guy and had a uniform almost identical to a patrol officer wearing his full blues, all the way to the badge on his chest. But he wasn’t a cop, which I did find odd.

When I opened the door he did this strange tough guy walk. He never looked at anything. He did this weird strut to the window and back. Looking back now, it’s clear this guy just had a hard on for me. I am fairly certain I was being tracked that day and he waited for me to come back into my room. He grabbed the female employee to accompany him. He slammed the door purposely to startle me and did his little tough guy walk, probably half erect.

I don’t think they had other stops to make. This was for me. At the time I was pretty annoyed by the ridiculous knock, but I let it go. I do everything possible to not get agitated in a casino.

FYI, during my stay here there has been a shooting and just 2 days ago an employee was stabbed at Paris. But what was their priority? Well two days ago I am just getting back to my room around 1 PM after walking the strip and I receive a phone call. It was hostile. I was told the final day of my reservation has been cancelled and I must vacate the hotel one day early because it will have been 30 days.

It was a call from the manager at the Diamond lounge. She wasn’t very nice to me but we have since talked it over and it is clear she was just the messenger. She didn’t enjoy having to do it. My understanding this is a law where after 30 days in Nevada someone can technically try to invoke tenant’s rights. It’s a reason the hotel can force you out after a month if need be, but it’s not typically enforced. It is clear as day I wasn’t going to do that based on my history with Caesars, actions during the stay, etc. The whole thing is just fucking ridiculous.

Now, I had a 7 AM flight the day of departure. Meaning I was going to leave the hotel probably around 4:30 AM. I paid for an extra day of which I was going to leave in the middle of the night so I didn’t have a huge amount to kill before my flight. Of course I was pissed off as all hell, but I kept my composure best I could. I made all the reasonable arguments. I am out of the room every day and have it cleaned…I have status at the hotel…I have never had a problem with anyone here. I am clearly not going to invoke my tenant’s rights. But I was pissed as fuck. This was so petty and unreasonable.

I explained that I knew this was someone upstairs that is just getting off on using his power to ruin my experience. Unfortunately, he has succeeded. I even moved my flight up a day early. They offered to move me to another Caesar’s property, which I said 0.000000000% chance if I move for one day, I would pick a Caesar’s property.

The manager in the Diamond lounge did all she could. She gave me a 6 PM checkout time but that still left me 13 hours to kill at the airport. Delta, of which I currently hold no status as opposed to Caesars, was sympathetic and waived the $200 change fee without hesitation. Of course, I had to pay for change in fare which was about $70 bucks. But all and all Delta did the right thing. I wasn’t going to move all my stuff and check into a hotel for one night and leave at 4 AM. I had to move the flight. Such petty bullshit.

This whole nonsense over not even a day, just a few hours. I am not saying this is going to happen to poker players who want to stay at Ballys for the 2 month duration of the series. I am sure you will be just fine. This was about JeffDime. I am just glad now that they have taken care of ensuring I wouldn’t invoke my tenant’s rights, Ballys & Paris can now focus on lower priority items like the decreasing the shootings and stabbings.

    Great job Caesars! As always!

Great post. So this fall I spent a lot of time in Vegas for the WSOP and when I was evacuated from my cabin for three weeks. I’m Diamond Plus as well. I stay at Bally’s and Harrah’s usually. I’ve never had a problem extending my stay, but they will make me to move rooms about every week or so. They take rooms “out of service”. I thought the extended stay inspections were discontinued. Especially if you allow housekeeping in.

I will tell you about my experience with the yellow shirted goons. I had a propane canister in my room. The little green ones. The guy had a shit fit. Called for back up, and make me take it out to my car!

    Shitty experience.

Was the "room check" really a room check, or was it someone else? Why do you think they were so aggressive about it?

The tenants rights crap is probalby just lol Caesars bureaucracy. I'm guessing they got burned by this at some point, and a market-wide decision was made to absolutely prohibit 30-day stays. Maybe they waive it when there is a megawhale who they doubt will assert tenants rights (and keeping him there is lucrative), but other than that, I'm guessing you're fucked.

I do wonder what they do about WSOP players who stay 30+ days at Rio, of which many do. That's what I would have asked if I were there. I would have told them that I know people who stay over 30 days at Rio, and to explain how that's possible (even without having verified that's true).

Maybe they kick people from Rio after 30 days, but I kinda doubt it. Maybe they make that exception for WSOP. The most I've stayed straight at Rio for WSOP was like 20 days, so I can't speak from experience.

My shitty "room check" experience was at the Rio.

I had just been up all night playing cash (and lost), and I was about to crash into bed, but then I realized they may bother me for the BS room check. This was in 2018 or 2019, so pre-COVID.

Fortunately I saw a maid in the hallway. I asked, "Hey, I don't want my room cleaned, but can you just do the room check part of it, so we get this out of the way?"

I theorized this should work, because the room check can either come in the form of a maid cleaning or via security.

The maid, who barely spoke English, called the housekeeping supervisor. The supervisor agreed to do this. She went into my room, looked around, made a call from my room phone to whatever they have to dial to indicate the room check was done, and said she finished.

I asked her, "Are you sure that's it? They won't bother me again today?"

She assured they wouldn't, but got on her walkie-talkie to verify that they had the room check recorded. They said yes.

I went to sleep feeling funny about it, like Caesars was going to fail again and this wasn't going to work, even though all signs were that it was fine.

Sure enough, 2 hours later, I was awakened by a knock on the door.

    "Security! Room check!"

I tried to yell that it was already done, but they couldn't hear me. I got up, still in my underwear and very exhausted, and told them through the door that the housekeeping supervisor did it 2 hours earlier.

"We don't have record of that," they told me. "Please let us in and we will be quick."

I refused. I didn't feel like getting dressed and having all the lights on. I wanted to get back in bed. I wasn't giving in to incompetence.

"No, I'm not doing that. Call the housekeeping supervisor and ask her, if you have to. Do it right outside my door if you're worried about anything. I don't care. Stand there all you want while you check on this. But they already did this, already called it in, and I'm not doing it a second time."

"Sir, can you just open the door and do this again? It won't take long", they answered.

"Again, this was already done and I was sleeping when you knocked. Please check on this. If you absolutely can't verify it, tell the front desk to call me and I'll discuss it with them", I replied.

After about 5 minutes outside my door, hearing them on their walkie-talkies, the female half of the pair (the main one talking to me) said, "Okay, they found it. Sorry for the disturbance", and they walked away.

When I woke up later, I called the front desk and complained about this mess. They muttered some excuse that it was "entered in the wrong system" or some BS like that, and that indeed it was a fault on their end. I told them I was pissed because I had just lost a lot of money and was trying to sleep it off, and put a lot of effort into making sure the room check was done, and this jarred me out of bed and took awhile to resolve. They apologized and put like a $50 food and beverage credit on my bill.

    The end.

Tough to completely remember but I believe they may have been watching me on the cameras and timed it just as I got back to my room. The knock was so unreasonably loud that I feel my read that this was just some rent a cop enjoying using his power is correct.

I get my room cleaned almost daily. I don’t remember him even tilting his head to look at anything. He didn’t even walk in or look at the bathroom.

This isn’t the Cosmo which sends you a hand written note and fruit plate if it takes more than an hour to get your room. For all the trouble…they offered me $0.0000000. Not surprised.

If you really want to follow this up, call the and ask for the property manager during the day, Monday through Friday. If they give you seome underling, that's probably okay, too.

Tell them you have the room cleaned every single day, and don't understand the room check. Tell them the concerns you had -- that the guy was very aggressive and rude, and seemed to have an issue with you before you even opened the door.

Ask for them to clarify the room check policy, for those who have daily room cleanings.

I dunno, I see both sides. I can see 100% they don't want some random creepy dude living in a hotel for months even if they are paying every day. It just creeps people out, especially staff. But I also get your point in being a good citizen there, so they offset.

You do have a point about the loud knock at the door. That would piss me off if some Jsearles wanna-bee cop began floating around his ID badge like he was in law enforcement.

With that said, you were on tilt from the golf beatdown lets be honest. Sprinkle in some other sports beats you probably should have just left and headed home early.

Not sure about being the type of guy where strangers come up to you asking advice because you look like someone who hangs out in a Casino, might need to change your look because that is not a positive.

No one thinks I’m creepy and no one is creeped out. The staff enjoys me being around. I can tell when people want to engage me for real or if they are just doing it as part of their job description. I stay to myself. I am sure if you could ask the staff here that deal with me they would tell you they like me being around. This has nothing to do with the employees on the floor or even the security guys who are all cordial to me. This is some pencil pusher behind the scenes.

You don’t know me…not all people staying in a casino for extended time are “creeps”. Just to be kind of clear here….people seem to enjoy socializing with me. Not saying it as a brag…it is true.

I could give an example just during this stay where I was thanked by employees for helping deal with some annoying patrons and de-escalating something so they didn’t have to…but I don’t want to give specifics. You can either believe me or not. I don’t really care.

Furthermore, if I feel like some patrons are decent people and I can save they time or money by telling them a short cut or two that will be helpful, generally I am happy to do so. I know the casinos backwards and forwards, it would be a waste to not give a helpful tip or two to some good people.

I know this is your deal here but there is a huge difference between someone who looks like they are a casino rat and people who look knowledgeable/approachable. But you can frame things 180 degrees depending on the language you use to describe it.

As for the sports…I am up overall decent for the year. I am down on the Caesar’s App. I dealt with the loss the best I could. Minimal steam.

I am sure Caesars is happy that you see it their way as well. As Mitt Romney once said, “Corporations are People too”.

Hey man, don't be so defensive, everyone here knows I take both sides of the issue to be fair to each side. I am just saying, with you walking through the lobby every day, many times a day, there are staff that say "there he is again, that guy". It's just natural. Then you give a staff female a casual glance, maybe say something at the hotel bar after a loss, and it is what it is you are on the radar. You did something, or more likely said something to get the firm knock on the door. If you were completely non-descript you would have not been noticed. My guess is you were steamed about the golf loss, said something and got on the radar. It's happened to me, it happens. To say you were just randomly targeted is just self serving.

As I was saying in the above rep I fully admit that making a thread of this nature is by definition somewhat self serving. I think I have contributed enough to the forum by this time that I can take a modicum of leeway in that matter.

As for taking losses. I am not demonstrable in public for the most part. I slept off the loss the best I could. I’m not the guy in the sportsbook yelling and screaming. I do my best to control my emotions and handled this loss in that fashion.

Bally’s is a small area when it comes to it. I have a unique look and that alone gets me on the radar if someone wants to fixate on me. You are partially right in that assessment.

I enjoyed reading the post. More stories like this and less of everything else please.

Also, I find it a little strange that in a State reliant so much on tourism that the major hotels don't have some sort of exemption from the "tenant's rights" laws.

    Some observations:

    1) The Tenants Rights issue is pretty well settled law in many jurisdictions. You can't simply sign away your rights, and they can't simply move you to another room to toll the 30 day limit. They need to get you out.

    2) They could have handled it more professionally, especially since you were a paying customer, and have status. They should NOT have had a menacing meathead discuss the matter with you (have a normal customer relations person with communication skills) and make arrangements for you to stay next door at their other property.

    3) You copped to being upset about losing a bet. At least you're not like that scammer CM who according to him always wins.

    4) If you look like the dude in your avatar, you might creep people out.

Been to Bally's like 5 times, definitely an old school casino and hotel, I like that. But like anything else, they walk on egg shells due to corporate interests in 2021. Every time I have been admonished at a casino, it was after a beat, likely after I said something. Maybe you were the 1 guy out of 100 that was targeted for no reason. Like I said if you are honest with yourself, during 30 days you definitely pissed someone off. Probably something you said that would have been ignored in 2015. Not now. Just the way it is.

This is my last post in wagering thread. My track record was probably better before I started posting picks with a bankroll. This one isn’t graded so you can subtract a grand. Documentation beats Conversation.

This course does give advantages to the bombers. But Morikawa just won the R2D. +900 I got at William Hill in Nevada. Don’t go lower than +850.

JeffDime was definitely PFA Rookie of the Year in 2020.

I enjoy all Caesars fail stories. Never get tired of reading them.

Yeah, good read. I knew about the 30 day thing, but didn't know about the "tenants rights" thing behind it.

Re: Dime-man being Rookie of the Year, who even comes close? Happy Holidays to you all.

It is bit, but it isn’t. In a weird time I stayed at the Cosmo for 93 days. I don’t like staying in shitholes. Bally’s pit is shit, the sportsbook sucks and they have no real restaurants except the food court. But it’s connected to Paris and you just walk 3 minutes and you got a nice pit and nice restaurants.

However, the rooms were made when square footage was important. They are all renovated and clean. The windows open an inch to allow fresh air into the place which is great. Walk over the bridge to Bellagio/Cosmo/Caesers. Take the tram to Aria from Bellagio very easily.

Diamond check in lounge is typically great. Bartenders are happy to have decent clientele around and treat you great. CVS, Great Ramen Joint, Gyro Joint, etc right outside.

It isn’t high end….but it’s certainly no shithole.
