Sorry to read about Sammy Farhas downfall, thought it’s not incredibly surprising

He was quite the character back in the day

All time legend for his WSOP runner up, looked like a true don at the final table, shame he lost

Was also fun to watch in the big cash games. The AA vs KK hand with James Gold was very uncomfortable to watch

No matter how much of an asshole Farha was at the table doesn’t excuse Assault and Battery by the other guy. It was a verbal confrontation that the ex dealer then assaulted Sammy period. Just because soembody runs their mouth and hurts your feelings doesn’t give anybody an excuse to assault somebody else period and the laws pretty clear on that.

Now the irony is the dealer and Farhas conflict centered on a previous incident verbally where they got into it at the currently closed 88 Social (the same club in the headlines for being owned by Johnny Chan) where the dealer was fired for his behavior. Honestly Sammy probably did the guy a favor given what’s going on with that mess

Again plenty of poker players are assholes and floors and supervisors should deal with it but verbally accosting somebody doesn’t legally warrant assault. The perp deserves to get charged probably with misdemeanor assault and call it a day. Truthfully it’s up to Sammy probably in a way if he wants the guy charged or not. If Sammy declines to be the complaining witness for a criminal complaint they need to bury the hatchet (and not in each other’s backs hopefully). Decades ago this could’ve ended up with somebody shot dead in reality seeing how it’s Poker in Texas.

I told this story back shortly after it happened on NWP. In summer of 2007, I was sitting at a blackjack table at the Bellagio. Just the regular tables, not the high limit room. It’s just me and some female dealer. Sammy sits down, calls the floor over, and signs a marker for a million dollars even. They bring him a rack with a million dollars. Don’t know if marker is correct term if it’s his money. Don’t know if it was his own money or credit.

I’m thinking wtf is he doing? There wasn’t anything going on. It was the middle of the afternoon.

The table limit might have been 5k or something. He gets his chips and just sits there. I continue playing for like 20 minutes while he just sits there. I eventually leave and he’s still sitting there. Not playing.

I was in my 30s. Dealer was semi-attractive, 30s also. All I could figure out was he was trying to impress her or knew her and was waiting for me to leave before he started talking to her. In the entire time, he never said a word. I said what’s up Sammy or something and he just nodded and said hello, and that was it. He wasn’t a dick or anything, but I had no clue why he was there.

This happened to me at the Hooters Casino Poker room like 15 years ago on a much smaller scale. Yes, there is a Hooters Casino Poker Room in Vegas, at least there was one, it probably went out o business by now. Anyway, there was ONE poker table going, 1/2 or maybe it was 2/4 I cant remember. I was there for hours, I needed to kill time but wanted to stay out of the pits. I was next to a guy with a huge stack for the table, he had maybe $15K there, we all had maybe a grand or less. Like I said, this is the Hooters Poker room, not the Wynn.

Anyway, we started a conversation, and the table would drop to 3 players and play would get suspended until more players showed up. So we built up a conversation. He confessed he was down to like $40K roll after starting with well over $100K a year earlier, he quit his teaching job and moved to Vegas trying to score it big. He confessed he sprays around big stacks to intimidate players like he is overly successful which by even by his own account he was a long time loser.

Anyway we traded a few more stories and I just left but I will never forget that guy's face. I would assume he probably hung himself by now. Don't know Farha, I have seen him on TV and he always came across as one of those wanne bee poker celebrities. Playing at scrub poker clubs in Houston at age 62, well its pretty certain his golden years are not going to be so golden.

I heard Farha actually got banned from a different casino in Houston due to altercations with dealers. Maybe he's running out of places to ply his tirade.
