Well, another Dodgers 7th inning postseason disaster. I'd like to say I'm surprised, but....

    So many managerial mistakes tonight.

Why take Anderson out when he's pitching well?

When Almonte started throwing better and recorded two straight outs, why yank him just because he throws a ball to the next batter?

Why no usage of Evan Phillips, who has gotten the Dodgers out of so many messes in the second half of 2022?

You can't blow 3-0 leads like this in the 7th in elimination games. You just can't.

Anderson has gone over 100 pitches before. No Dodger pitcher ever went past 5 innings. How was that gonna work going forward in playoffs especially with that weak bullpen.

We both know this is the “analytics” team. Roberts has a manual issued from upstairs. They ain’t letting Dave Roberts manage by feel.

Collective failure. In fact, this failure for a decade plus is historic and special. They have superseded the 90’s Braves fail.

We can discuss the offensive production in this series - Taylor, Justin T, Thomson, etc etc later. Dodgers closed out the season playing the Rockies 6 times. My heroes

The lack of efficient bench usage was also a problem.

Most notably, they left Miguel Vargas on the bench, despite his OPS over .900 at AAA this year, and other teams not knowing him very well. When you have automatic outs like Bellinger, Gallo, Barnes, and Taylor, you should go with a guy like Vargas who at least gives you a chance.

During the final 6 outs, the Dodgers were flailing. Freddie Freeman's 3-pitch strikeout to end it was fitting. The Dodgers knew they were dead once they fell behind 5-3. They simply knew they didn't have any rallies left in them.

MLB started with two New York teams and LA. I don’t even want to see Cole’s strikezone tonight. Going to be a weird bullpen game 5 if Yankees win tonight with them canceling the travel day.

    Guardians +1½ -130

My NFL win will subsidize the juice.

It’s all about Cole tonight as Yankees bullpen is taxed. Cole is 1 run better than Quantrill with extended metrics but that’s fine. Cole is prolly gonna go really deep. If I were a prop guy I’d play some of that nonsense like strikeouts or outs over.

Weather not conducive to a high scoring game so let’s keep it close.

Being a little nitty but I think it’s the right play. Heart obv Guardians. Yankees such a wreck and have been for a long while.

Your lack of confidence has been documented.

I had them +1.5 yesterday with Stanford in parlay

On cue the armchair quarterbacks do what they do best in pointing fingers. Dodger success in 2022 was rightly attributed to the raw talent of the roster. No one presumed management was the key to a dominate year.
And yet, management will always be the fall guy.

Choking is a term rarely mentioned in pro sports and at it doesn't even apply to management but that's what some critics are implying.

I like when you contribute sports opinions Les.

Dodgers were a juggernaut all season, they just ran into a buzzsaw. Pads got hot at the right time and wanted it more. Rallying behind a hungry city it was beautiful to see. Long way to go for the end goal tho. Phillies offense is hot and deep 1-9, then the Guardians in the WS.

BCR: I am giddy at the idea of a Padres-Cleveland World Series, but it still feels -1800. Those Astros man just win, assuming we even get past Yankees. Verlander eats us up usually. Really wanted to see him burnt and Seattle to win 1 game at least.

Good Take my guy. They pulled Anderson when he was in a groove and that instantly gave me more hope. Melvin stuck with Musgrove last night in a few jams and he wiggled out of it. Pretty crazy I'm this happy at just a division series but they got over the Doyers and pitching is lined up for next series. Any opinion on this next series at close to pick em against the Phillies?

FWIW I do think they fire him. One title in a 60 game season with the team with the best record EVER over a 10 year span.. not enough

I’m with kalam though. Playoff baseball mixed with gambling is going to get me on some hypertensive medication.

I didn’t have a happy moment from the time Judge went deep until Oscars hit went by the second basemen. It’s just torturous to watch 60% of their hits be homeruns 10 rows deep when it’s 42 degrees and we need to string so much together to score. It’s demoralizing all the way until it isn’t.

Only one winner exists in sports betting, the bookie.
Unpredictability is live sport's greatest asset and a bettor's weakest.

As a lifelong Dodgers fan, I’ll take Bruce Botchy for $1000 Alex. Congrats to the Padres, btw. They earned it.

There was an old time hustler that used to say, "Thats why the bookies are driving Cadilacs and the bettors are looking for a new sot to bet"
John Spatifiore wise man and expert prop bettor RIP used to get people at the table to bet him that the next pitch was a foul ball.. on a 3-2 pitch
Now over the years I have seen sharp bettors win and we used to have a team attack weak lines at sportsinteraction.com.
They cut the account off after you win 20-30k and max bet is 500 on sides and 200 on totals. It was work to get a bunch of action in. I see they still are in action. NFL bookies and Bellagio sportsbook have 6 figures of my monies in NFL over the years. The one sport I have very little success in.

Now that would be interesting. So many Padres fans wanted him last year. He may be done forever but he would do them good and have a chance to take a 3rd NL West team to division title.

Up against it now. I don’t hate a bullpen game against NY. I’m most nervous about the first couple innings. Feel like if it’s 0-0 or 1-1 after 3, the advantage shifts to Cleveland, but civale starting concerns me. We went with our C team relievers last night and we have six innings of rested good relief waiting. This feels like a San Yankees first 5 game and then reevaluate spot if it isn’t 6-0 NY. Not for me as I’m hoping we jump out to 4 runs in the first, but I like it the longer it stays close.

The rainout threw all the cards in the air.

I’m off this game - at least overnight.

I’m about to unload a clip on Astros to win the AL @ -185.

Whoever wins has to fly to Houston and play the next day against a rested Astros. It’s like spotting the Astros 1-0. This expanded playoffs is so messed up.

Astros are def greater than 65% against either NYY or Cleve in that spot.

The only fly in the ointment would be a blowout especially by Yankees. They are more prone to using their starters in relief - up to and including Cole in a tight game. Maybe Cashman prohibits using Cole, idk. You get my point.

I love the Guardians and this bet will mean I don’t bet anymore AL til the World Series but I have to.

If I wanted to get cute I could live wager the inevitable Astros slow start in game 1. This has less to do with too much rest than a season of falling behind and finishing strong by a Astros. They were a hemorrhoid to wager in the regular season.

Yankees vs Houston makes for better storylines for the ALCS clearly. Expect Yankees to smash Cleveland in short order tomorrow to allow them to just coast most of the game. (if the fix is in possibly). Truthfully if it is Cleveland I dont give them a snowballs chance against Houston, Astros in 5 easy. See other thread I somehow have this gut feeling MLB wants a Judge vs Harper slugfest for the WS but we shall see and it would be a rematch of 2009 when the Yankees last won it all.
