It was a poor advertising campaign that failed and nothing else.
It was more than rhetoric or some psyop.
The advice was to distribute the vax to essential workers before the elderly since the elderly are overwhelmingly white.
    And
To not include teachers as essential workers since they were overwhelmingly white.
Marc Lipsitch, a Harvard University epidemiologist, said that teachers should not be treated as essential workers when it comes to passing out the vaccine if the goal is to "reduce health inequities," in part because "they are often very white."
The above caused a bit of controversy but surely they wouldn't try to "level the playing field".
    Or would they

CDC director says schools can safely reopen without vaccinating teachers.
Teachers do not need to get vaccinated against Covid-19 before schools can safely reopen, the head of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Wednesday.

"There is increasing data to suggest that schools can safely reopen and that safe reopening does not suggest that teachers need to be vaccinated," CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky told reporters during a White House news briefing on Covid-19.

"Vaccinations of teachers is not a prerequisite for safely reopening schools," she added.

So right before the vax becomes widely available she tried to get teachers to reopen unvaccinated.
And no she doesn't have data backing this up.
It caused a bit of controversy but most people didn't understand her true motive.
The controversy reached the White House and as luck would have it the President's wife is a white teacher and they eventually walked back that insane recommendation.

It wasn't some hidden recommendation, she gave many interviews on the biggest news channels pretty much ordering schools to re open.
Take one minute and watch for yourself..

Have you looked at the wording of the Build Back Better bill the Dems are trying to pass? The wording of many of the provisions are to specifically earmark massive amounts of money for specific racial groups (to the exclusion of others). At some point when all your "advertising" goes one way we have to assume you actually mean it and will follow through if you can.

Of course the main problem right now is that the poor BIPOC community being advertised to doesn't trust the Dem party. And why should they? The Dems are the party that flooded BIPOC neighborhoods with criminals through "criminal justice reform" and ravaged them by promoting looting all of last year. Even uneducated poor people (but apparently not highly educated, rich progressives) understand how the progressive agenda of the last 2 years was always going to end up.

FWIW I believe the Democratic Party has every intention of trying to buy votes through straight bribery of BIPOC communities, which is what a big chunk of the BBB bill they are trying to pass is. However their ideas of how to govern are just so horrible that the money will actually do the opposite of intention and make those communities worse. And at some level the communities themselves understand this, which is where a lot of the resistance is coming from.

I wish this were actually the case. If it was just a backdoor way to get black people to warm up to the vaccine, it wouldn't have bothered me.

But the libs at the CDC legit thought that black and Hispanic people (even the young ones) deserved the vaccine earlier than everyone else. The justification presented was twofold: They tend to hold more COVID-dangerous jobs, and they have had worse health outcomes overall (before COVID), so this would make up for such past transgressions. The basic acknowledgement was that more people would die under this plan, but that the "equity" gains were worth it. That's the reason the term "equity" was used, rather than "equality". Two very different things.

Much of this plan was abandoned as the virus hit peak levels in early January, and old people were having a bitch of a time getting appointments (including my parents). All of a sudden there was tremendous pressure on governors to abandon the "equity" bullshit and just save the old people who were dying every day by the thousands, so most of them went back to doing it by age -- at least in the top priority groups.

However, the initial recommendation by the CDC actually put 25-year-old grocery store workers ahead of non-nursing-home 95-year-olds, which was absolutely insane. No other country did it this way.

Obviously this was roundly and justifiably mocked on right-wing media.

So when people ask, "Why doesn't the hard right trust the CDC and other experts?", this is exactly why. There were so many ridiculous statements from the "experts" over the past 20+ months, many people just tune them out as bullshit at this point, even when they're right (such as about the vaccine for adults).

There's a vaccine mandate for kids in California, which will be coming fairly soon. It's not as soon as I initially thought. It takes place for the 2022-23 school year, meaning it's about 9 months away for most kids.

But unless that's rolled back, all California kids -- except ones in homeschool -- will be required to get the COVID vaccine.

How insane is that? The age group with almost zero bad COVID outcomes is the only group required to be vaccinated. Additionally, observational evidence (zero confirmed student-to-student classroom outbreaks) shows they transmit COVID at a much lower rate than everyone else.

So elderly adults -- who both die at a high rate AND transmit the virus normally -- are NOT required by the state to get vaccinated. Kids, who don't have bad outcomes and don't transmit much, will be force-vaccinated.

    SCIENCE!!!

    Correct.

Left-wing racism basically assumes that people of color are unable to rise out of poverty and also unable to resist a life of crime, so therefore the government must take care of them, and also go easy on criminals from those communities.

What occurs is a cycle of dependence upon subsistance via government, plus neighborhoods terrorized by a violent criminal element.

The best way to empower black neighborhoods to thrive is to get the criminal element off the street with a zero tolerance approach, and then open real opportunities via programs which provide vocational training and preparation for college.

For example, idiot liberals think that eliminating the SAT is the right decision for college admissions, because on average, black and Hispanic people do worse on the test.

Smart people would realize that this actually HURTS the minority students who are smart yet not achieving the best grades due to life circumstances, as they can no longer show their potential via a standardized test. Furthermore, the "preparation gap" can be easily and cheaply closed by providing free SAT test prep classes to lower and lower-middle-class schols.

The former is pandering bullshit, whereas the latter actually helps minority students have a better chance for college admissions.

Basically the left's approach is, "You're a victim of societal oppression, therefore nothing is your responsibility and we will always take care of you, no matter what."

The right's approach is, "Let's see what we can do to solve the problems in your community, and give people more opportunities to help themselves."

Democrats don't want minorities to rise out of poverty, because they'll lose votes. This is especially true because minorities aren't very much on board with all the extreme trans and feminism issues, so they are already starting to slowly move to the Republican side for those reasons alone. Take away the financial and race-baiting pandering, and they'll lose minority voters in droves.

    Huh...

"So can we take from this that you agree it's outrageous that 30 million mostly young "essential workers" are in the same priority group as elderly, including elderly with preexisting conditions?

BTW, there was a previous study stating that the optimal way to do things was to only vaccinate healthcare workers directly working with COVID patients, and then give the rest to the elderly until they're all vaccinated. So yes, I stand by my statement that vaccinating ALL healthcare workers before seniors is idiotic, and is killing a lot of extra people.

However, it's not nearly as indefensible as vaccinating "essential" workers at the same time as the elderly. The worst thing is that this is being mostly driven by racial politics, not science."

    And more data rolls in:

    https://acasignups.net/21/12/20/week...ccination-rate

I want to be clear: in my mind, this isn't about Trump, or even about any particular political party. It's about the negative effects whenever a public health issue is politicized.

The death rate from COVID is 16x higher in the USA than in Japan, and 29x higher in the USA than in Korea. In large part because of people's distrust of government, and unwillingness to accept public health crisis recommendations from experts due to political differences.

    These are the results.

more propaganda, we have more covid deaths than Japan because we are fatter and more unhealthy, and literally any death within 28 days of a positive COVID test was labeled a covid death to manipulate idiots like you, by cnn sponsored by Pfizer to take the Fauci juice and somehow you believe it's effective but also need one every 5 months.

We not only have 16x the deaths, we also have 16x the infections so being fat and unhealthy as Americans (while true) clearly isn't the issue here.

Since you claim everything is a big manufactured conspiracy (an extraordinary claim indeed), please present your extraordinary proof that this is the case.

(and for the sake of your own dignity, at least read the studies you cite this time before posting them, and finding out they refute your position)

Sidenote: I don't think you understand the Schrödinger's cat thought experiment; your reference makes no sense.

I think Dwai raises a good question to which you did not respond: we all know people and businesses are motivated by money. There is money in classifying a death as a covid death, no? To what extent, if any, do you think our covid deaths are juiced higher because of the financial motivation in doing so?

fuck you dweeb I will not waste my time arguing with a left wing extremist who vaccinated his kids against a virus that they're more likely to die in a car accident on the way to get the vaccine than the virus itself.

you also want to mask kids nationwide, you support mandates, mask and vax, you also supported lockdowns, nothing backed by science

    khalwat:

I actually agree that cultural differences largely make the difference between US COVID outcomes and Japan/Korea COVID outcomes.

However, I think you're missing the main reason this has happened.

It's not a matter of people there "trusting the experts" versus people here ignoring them.

It's actually a combination of two factors -- far less politicization of the virus in those countries PLUS a general culture in those countries where people tend to obey government with little question.

The US is a very unique place. It was borne from rebellion, and founded upon the principles of individual rights. This has been mostly a good thing -- leading to freedom, innovation, prosperity, and world influence not seen anywhere else in human history. However, this is a weakness when it comes to COVID. In a pandemic, a population willing to be strictly controlled will do best, and the ones constantly fighting for individual rights will do worst. Often times, what's good about a population is also what's bad about a population.

However, despite this fact, the US could have done better if there were a unified government response to it. Instead, it immediately became political, and neither side trusted one another. The left likes to portray that they were "following the science", but they very often strayed from that when convenient to political goals. Now both sides can point to where the other was lying or misleading about COVID.

Vaccine hesitancy is an unfortunate side effect of this, which is why your graph shows that Trump voters died more often from COVID than non-Trump voters. By the time the vaccine was released in 2021, we had a year of fighting and distrust, and many on the right simply could not trust anything the left told them to do. With that said, the left engaged in so much fear porn about COVID that many people just tuned it all out. Instead of running fluke stories about healthy 25-year-olds dying of COVID, the message should have been that people over have a much greater need for the vaccine than those under 45. To me, the real tragedy is when a person my age dies of COVID because they didn't take the vaccine -- not because they were selfish assholes, but because they saw actual examples of dishonesty from the left, and couldn't trust the advice to take the vaccine.

If only there were right wing media outlets and leadership that would have presented evidenced based advice to prevent all of these dead idiots from dying.

The sad truth is that Fox News could easily lose 5% of its audience to the Rona and still crush their cable competitors in the ratings. And given that the mortality rate of the Rona is below 5%, having some of their popular primetime commentary show hosts champion resisting the efforts of Team Biden to get us past this crisis in order to prolong the chaos and disruption to the economy is most likely a strongly positive EV strategy even if the worse case of COVID mortality among their viewers occurs.

Unique shameek. Most countries that exist today are a by product of hell out war. You're so called rights and freedoms are crashing down upon you. China for instance will step on you like a bug when the time is right.

It's not a good question, for two reasons:

    1) It's speculative nonsense, not backed by any proof whatsoever

    2) If any of these things were true, they'd be universally true in every country, making the comparison apples to apples

I can easily make up rampant speculation, and then put the onus on you to disprove it, but that'd be a disingenuous way to engage in a discussion.

Let's completely forget about the "why" for a moment. It's interesting, but largely a distraction.

Regardless of why the USA responded as we did to the COVID crisis, the important part is the scoreboard.

We have done poorly, and others have done far better.

If the countries that are doing so well in response to COVID are the ones where people are actually listening to and practicing the medical advice from their government, then clearly that's the right thing to be doing.

So do it. Get vaccinated. Put on a mask. Social distance.

That's the advice literally everyone around the world has been given, and the countries that are more able & amenable to following it are doing so much better than the ones who are ignoring it.

It's so obvious, and so simple.

Actually, the ‘why’ IS important. Namely, because the President and leader of the Republican Party was a narcissitic psychopath who first INTENTIONALLY ignored the crisis, then slow-walked responding in any way to it, and then only half-heartedly because his most trusted advisors believed that it would mostly hurt the states that didn’t support him, did the US suffer so badly versus other NORMALLY-led major countries like Japan.

Hell, even a GOPer as self-serving and opportunistic as Ted Cruz were instead the President at that time would have recognized out of the gate that immediately characterizing the crisis as a “national emergency” calling for a “War on COVID”, turning himself into a “war” president”, and virtuay guaranteeing himself an easy re-election” later in the year.

Honestly if those duped by our government on Covid would admit it and say they learned something and will use more critical thinking in the future, everyone would forgive and accept. This is not what is happening. The level of sheer stupidity and stubbornness when faced with the glaring truths is unfathomable. They keep digging in.

    Sad.
