    Huge controversy at Partouche

Several pros including Justin Bonomo and Tony Dunst are lighting twitter up about Partouche refusing to honor the advertised $5million Euro guarantee of the main event. According to tweets the tourney officials are denying that they ever advertised a guarantee and basically calling the players liars. Bonomo posted this pic as proof. I am curious as to whether they 5 million was for the whole series or the main only. Either way very wrong to deny ever posting it on their website.

Maybe they don't understand the meaning of guarantee.
Tradition is a set of solutions for which we have forgotten the problems.

Awful, and the players have a right to be pissed.

I do kinda LOL a little whenever Justin Bonomo speaks out about moral issues in poker, but at least the guy has kept his nose clean for awhile now.

This reminds me a bit of that recently-advertised "$1,000,000 prize pool" poker series in Arizona, where it turned out it was an estimate, rather than a guarantee.

    This is worse, of course.

I think a lot of these rooms are now resorting to misleading advertising in order to compensate for the degraded poker economy.

    Sad.

Also recall that Partouche was the location of that really, really bad cheating incident in 2010.

What a fucking mess that place is.

I also found this to be a bit odd if true.

With what little I do see of Bonomo, it seems like he got caught for doing something wrong, but since then, he had the balls to put himself out in the spotlight, knowing fully that people could bash him, and come out against cheaters and shadiness.

It doesnt seem like he is hiding from anything, he seems like he wants to be a better person, and will put himself in the spotlight to draw attention to issues and teach people.

He gets a "notadouche" pass from me.

I don't know if such a law restricting added money really exists, but even if it does, the casino can easily get around it by offering other forms of compensation to the winners.

For example, they could "hire" the entire final table for an advertising campaign, and grossly overpay them.

This is the same bullshit argument that Lock Poker was using when they didn't want to pay out their promised extra rakeback bonuses. They blamed it on Merge for restricting the rakeback they could pay out, but conveniently avoided the fact that they could pay the money out in so many non-rakeback ways, to where it broke out the same.

If Partouche doesn't cover the full guarantee, they are cheating people.

They cannot hide behind laws supposedly restricting adding money.

The PPT is closing up shop, so it looks as if they will not add anything to the prize-pool, and don't give a flying fuck how bad they look
I write things about poker at my Poker Blog and elsewhere on the Internets

It appears Mr Partouche has taken the douchebag of the year award in his final act of French douchebaggery he has stated that the PPT will now cease to exist and its all the players fault for their negative attitudes and accusations. (And they wonder why people have such disdain for their bullshit attitudes. If it wasnt for the Brits and Americans those fuckers would be speaking German and walking the goosestep)

He is still in the tournament ans is lighting twitter up. The prize pool from what I've seen is around 700,000 Euros short of the 5,000,000 guarantee which is is the neighborhood of 880,000 US dollars. If you figure that first will pay between 23% and 28% of the prize pool the first place finisher will lose between 202,000 and 246,400 US dollars.

Poker : It’s all over for the Partouche Poker Tour, CEO vents anger in press conference

The 2012 edition of the Partouche Poker Tour was the last ever, Patrick Partouche (pictured, right) announced Wedneday afternoon in a press conference at the Casino Palm Beach in Cannes, where the event concludes on Sunday. The news comes the day after the controversy over the €5m-guaranteed-prize-pool-that-wasn’t.

Partouche said the reaction of some of the players, who said the €700K prize pool shortfall meant the group had misled them and was cheating them of the guaranteed prize pool, was so upsetting that he has decided to close the whole thing down. He added that the “€5m prize pool was never guaranteed anywhere in our communication ». He admits, however, to a « clumsy and euphoric bit of communication » after the 2011 event which mentions the figure.

This point is countered by a number of screenshots iGamingFrance has published showing clearly the figure being mentioned.

The closure of the event is a blow to the French and international live poker scene as PPT was one of the most important events of the poker calendar in France.

However, some players were wondering if his year’s edition would be the last even before the prize pool controversy played out, while some are already concluding that the group has used yesterday’s events as an excuse to bring to a halt an event which was popular and well-attended but did not generate any profit. The 2012 PPT has also been critcised for the format of the pay out and for allowing re-buys when it shouldn’t have.

The Winamax blog reports him as saying: « For 40 years I have dedicated my life, my name, my family, to gaming, all gaming, including poker, a true passion. And now I hear that what we do is not enough, is not honest. The Partouche Poker Tour bears my name, that of my family. I will not accept, my staff will not accept, that people can say ‘Partouche are thiefs’, ‘Partouche are cheats’. As a result, this week you attended the last edition of the Partouche Poker Tour. We hope that others will invest the same energy, the same desire, the same love so that this game continues.

« For the first time this year, more foreign players registered than French players. Over the past five years, we were the only group able to compete with US tournaments. And I can say without a doubt that, outside the Partouche Poker Tour, no French tournament has hosted as many stars (at their tables).”

Patrick Partouche went on to excoriate « young players with a lot of ego and in need of recognition, who have not even made the final table and call us cheats and thieves » and concluded his speech in French with an enigmatic proverb (« When you spit, you never have to say it’s raining »).

He added in English: « Guarantee? Guarantee no? Whatever, whatever! » and told players he would see them at the International Stadiums Poker Tour event at Wembley next year. He certainly can’t say the group never mentioned that figure in any official capacity.
