Hurricane Ida barreling toward US, may approach Gulf Coast as Cat 4 storm

Hurricane Ida, after making landfall in western Cuba on Friday afternoon, was barreling into the southeastern Gulf of Mexico. AccuWeather forecasters warned that Ida, headed over exceptionally warm waters, was likely to rapidly intensify and could even approach the U.S. coast as Category 4 hurricane. Meteorologists warned residents along the central Gulf Coast that time is running out to prepare for the storm or evacuate the storm's projected path.


Feel really bad for these folks. They never really totally recovered from Katrina. I was supposed to go there in two weeks. Hopefully, there won't be a repeat of last time and these folks aren't devastated again.

Agree, but the problem is that for decades there were actual subsidies to build in places like that. Millions live in such places, and not only on the coasts. People should get one-time help to relocate.

Applies to hurricane-prone places like basically all of Florida as well.
