Mets draft Kumar Rocker #10, then don't sign him

Lots of fail here. First, Rocker would have been drafted in the top 3, maybe #1 if he signed right out of high school. For whatever reason he went to college, that is a lot of fail right there.

He has a great freshman year, Covid-19 ruined 2020 for everyone, in 2021 he pitched pretty good. Lots of strikeouts, but he had an ERA near 3.00 which is high for college. He was hardly dominant and flags went up about his pitch control.

Given the cool name and the fact he can strike out 10 a game, he was selected #10 by the Mets.

He apparently flunked a physical, but there are conflicting reports. Met's say he flunked, a series of 'independent' doctors say his elbow is fine, no issues.

Billionaire Owner Steve says in an awful tweet its about business cutting him loose, and he is getting crushed on social media.

So now Kumar has to either sit out a year or play intendent ball, or sign with Japan. Weird MLB rules says he cannot sign with another team, which is absurd.

If there is any lesson, sign when you are a top 3 pick, why he elected to play college ball who knows.

I was very sorry to see this news, I feel bad for him. Talk about a high to a low. I do agree with you though take your top 3 draft status while it lasts especially if you’re a pitcher.

Mets must really think his arms messed up to not cut some sort of deal and just not sign him

He could go back to Vanderbilt, but apparently doesn't want to. Overseas would be a smart move, he won't earn that $6m bonus the Mets would have given him, but it would be better than anything independent stateside.

It’s nothing new at times for some of these top picks to end up not getting signed. Dbacks nearly had the same problem they would’ve lost the #6 pick they drafted today also had they not worked things out Friday.

Such a weird decision. Even if it’s worst case and he needs Tommy John, he misses a year and you still have guy who might be top 3 talent. Might be why he had a strange year. Most of these guys come back better now. In big picture, the $6 million is small risk with high upside even before the Boras angle.
