    What's the Rio like today?

I'm thinking of going to LV in June for the Venetian DeepStack Extravaganza. Looking at where to stay I noticed that the prices of Ceaser's properties are creeping back up, except for the Rio. I can understand this because it must be pretty dead there. But it occurred to me that this might be just what I want.
I have no use for the insanity of the strip or downtown. I chose Ceasar's because I am Diamond (Thanks to Druff's matching tips!) and can avoid resort fees and parking fees. I will have a car so the off strip location is not an issue. All I want is to play poker, do a little hiking up in Red Rocks and have a comfortable room with a fridge for my beer.
So what do you think? Am I missing some other reason to avoid the Rio?

If you can stay in the smaller tower (Ipanema),especially on the top four floors, that would be preferable to the Masquerade Tower. I took a quick look and it may be possible they do not even have the smaller tower open. The Rio has a weird smell, plumbing issues (especially in the Masquarade Tower) and old rooms with very old lumpy beds. The smaller tower they keep up a little better. Typically at Diamond checkin a $10 dollar tip will get you in the smaller tower even if you booked the Masquarade.

It is a shithole, but there is still some positives. Really works well with a car as they have a ton of parking. Make a right down Flamingo and you got a bunch of places to pick up food and what not. The Sportsbook is ok and in the sportsbook there is a place called Pho Dang. Expensive, but if you like Beef Pho the shit is really good.

Looking at my Ceaser’s Comps/Rates I’m still seeing some great value at other locations. I would highly recommend giving a look at Ballys. Rooms are nice, walk across the bridge to the Bellagio Poker Room, Cosmo, the Fountain and a whole bunch of shit. It is also connected to Paris which has great food options. Highly recommend checking the rates for Ballys, as they may not be that much greater than the Rio, especially during the week. Would be a little awkward as to whether to take your car or walk to the Venetian.

Harrahs is usually priced around Ballys. You wouldn’t need your car to walk to the Venetian. It is a matter of price and preference. If you are not picky and don’t mind a lumpy bed, Rio will do. Good luck!

    Thanks, JeffDime!
I've stayed at the Rio 3 or 4 times over the past few years for WSOP. The first time I got the Masquerade tower because I didn't know any better but then I always got the other tower ("Mountain View" when you're booking). I just checked and yes, Bally's is only a little more with Harrah's about even with Bally's. I was surprised to see Linq and Flamingo significantly higher.
Right now I can book 4 nights at Rio for $189 including the weekend.

No problem. The Linq sucks and the Flamingo’s pricing never made much sense to me either. If you stay at Ballys you will just have a little bit of a longer walk than those two properties if you decided against driving the short distance. Good luck!

One last thing I have failed to mention about Ballys. The have an outdoor parking lot right off flamingo. Not everyone knows it’s for the public. It is an entrance to the sportsbook which is the ground level. You can take the elevators right down to the bottom level and be at your car in a matter of minutes. You exit right by the entrance to the small food court. This saves about 15 minutes or more from parking in the shared Paris/Ballys garage in the back. The lot is shared with the employment center. Sometimes you have to park behind the structure to get a spot but it’s for sure the way to go. Will make getting to the Venetian a lot quicker. Take a right out of the lot down Flamingo and you got Starbucks, Target, Chipotle and all kinds of places right there.
