Running a bit late because I got too into watching Dodgers.

There's actually a good reason for the delay in archives this time.

About 4 hours into radio, I started feeling cold. It was only 47 degrees outside, so I figured I just hadn't heated the room and that was the reason for it. So I turned on the heat.

But instead of getting warmer, I got colder. And then much colder. Then I was actually shivering and my teeth were chattering. The heat was blasting for 2 hours, with the door closed, and the room must have been about 85 degrees, and I was freezing. I knew something was wrong.

I toughed it out, as Brandon had just joined, and I wanted to finish off the show with him. After we finished, I took my temperature, and indeed it was 101. My normal temp is typically around 97.4, and I never get fevers. Shit!

I texted Brandon and told him, and he was shocked I was sick. He said I sounded totally normal. One of my better acting jobs. When I post it, listen to the last 2 hours and realize I was freezing, teeth chattering, and had a fever. You'd never guess.

Anyway, it's likely not COVID or The AIDS. I just had a deep dental scaling (the type I talked about on the radio 2 weeks ago) -- the first cleaning I had since 2019. This had been the longest I had gone between cleanings. It is likely that the cleaning dislodged bacteria which got into my bloodstream, and 15 hours later, I felt illness from it. This was at a periodontist's office, and while they don't prescribe antibiotics after every deep cleaning, some periodontists actually do. In 1995 I got a gum infection from the same thing, except that one was painful and not an illness.

Given the timing, it was highly likely that this is what happened. I almost never get fevers. The fever rose to 102 degrees at about 6:30am -- the highest fever since I had mono in 1992. The chills I felt during radio were also the worst chills I've had since that same 1992 mono illness.

I got a little bit worried because I've heard about dental infections killing people via heart attacks. In fact, I knew someone in the 2010s who died this exact way -- a heart attack in his early 50s, after a dental cleaning. However, he was well over 400 pounds, so obviously I didn't have anywhere near the same risk factor. But I was still a little concerned.

I texted my brother, a cardiologist, who said an immediate heart problem wasn't likely to occur, but that he agreed this was highly likely what I suspected -- an infection from the cleaning. He told me I should get antibiotics.

I couldn't sleep due to being so uncomfortable. At 8:30, I tried to call the periodontist. It was super tilting. First I waited on hold for their "exchange" (remember, it's Saturday), to page the doctor. Well, after like 5 minutes on hold, they came on and couldn't hear me. I called back, and then it wouldn't connect to the exchange at all. I called back a third time and got static. Lovely. I tried back a 4th time and got static again. So that wasn't going to work.

I tried my regular doctor, who happened to be on vacation until Monday, and had a message up that anyone with an issue should go to urgent care or the hospital. No thanks.

My last option was to call my general dentist, who had just seen me for a filling the week before. This wasn't his problem or anything related to his work, but I thought maybe he could help, as it was likely dental. I told him the inability to contact the other two doctors, and he nicely prescribed antibiotics for me.

So I took them, and as expected, I am feeling mostly better. Not 100%, but way better than in the morning, and the fever is mostly gone (my temperature is 98.3, which is a little elevated for me, but a huge improvement over 102). Chills are pretty much gone.

I had a home game I was going to attend tonight, and I had to cancel on them.

Anyway, I'm working on getting it in the archives now. Dental cleanings are serious business!

When I do post it, listen to the final 2 hours, and you'll never be able to guess that I was feeling absolutely awful, shivering and teeth chattering.
