I watched the rookie workouts looks like a good class possibly 5qbs going in first round someone ran 4.35 40 think it was defensive player. Ohio State qb turned in a 4.4

I always have weird ideas I have no ability to capitalize on. I coached linebackers and defense when I coached at high school level.
I find it amusing now the this QB ran a 4.4 type mocks. Like a Ben couldn’t run a 5 flax and a Tannehill played WR in the BIG 12 and got sacked every play. There is something to footwork and peripheral vision. I remember talking with my buddy about camps for pocket awareness like a decade ago. I think I even posted about it here. I’d see these QB gurus come and go and they were always mechanics guys, and then there came a point all the guys either had good mechanics, or mechanics you wouldn’t want to change.
Pocket awareness is super underrated. The problem was I wasn’t sure if it was a learned skill, or like peripheral vision, or some combo of all of it. Guys seemed to have it or not by adulthood and I didn’t know if it would be a clinic about improving vision. In the end I thought it might be a better project you sell to a team looking to draft QBs or college scouting tool. I think they are just now scratching the surface on recognizing its value. Peripheral vision and footwork to evade first rush and deliver pass is superior to guy who can run 4.4.
I didn’t watch a lot of Bama until the end. I didn’t think much of this kid based on just looking at him and that Bama QBs never pan out. Assumed he was 100% game manager. But his pocket awareness was unreal. Those guys who can feel exactly when to get rid of ball. You had two amazing contrasts in Fields and Jones. One with a great strong body running a 4.4 and this kid who has no business being a professional football player, yet I couldn’t forget that pocket awareness. As the game gets softer for QBs, I’m going to be really interested to watch this kid. The idea of tennis and the footwork required made me think. No one thinks tennis helping football, but a kid who grew up playing tennis loving football and playing QB, they may be onto something.
I don’t know how long this embarrassing bit of broadcasting lasts but it shouldn’t even be a thing. Just awful
