This will decrease visibility, as ESPN is higher rated. Not good for poker!

Doesn't make sense unless they plan to put some of it on the main CBS network.
When it gets down to HU do we get to hear Bill Raftery say it's MANTOMAN?

Does this mean we no longer be subjected to Norman Chad's horrible jokes?
Personally I liked the edited shows back in the day, the more live style is obviously timely but dull as hell until something finally happens.
This is disastrous for the WSOP in the long term. As we know, less and less amateur players run deep in the Main Event anymore. I think the last few final tables has been mostly pros. Here is the list from 2001 of main event winners.
The sweet spot was 2002-2007, which obviously correlated to the boom. I believe all 6 winners were not declared “pros” when they won. However, the trend is unmistakable, as for the exception of Qui Nguyen, we have all pros since Jerry Yang in 2007.
But the numbers of entrants continue to rise and ESPN is a big part of that. ESPN has been run like shit for about a decade now. Getting rid of major talent. Signing Michelle Beadle to a 5 million dollar a year contract after she defected unsuccessfully to NBCSN. The political garbage. John skipper ran that place like shit.
But the brand remains strong. The visibility is a large component. ESPN and ESPN 2 in general have much better channel placement and are in a ton of more homes than these other sports networks. Fox Sports 1 has done probably the best of all the second tier networks, but they still don’t come close to challenging the brand of ESPN.
Hotels for instance. I’ll simplify it to Las Vegas. With the possible exception of the Cosmo, I can’t think of a hotel or hotel chain that carries CBSSN. They are in last place. Their content is radio simulcasts and axe throwing. Caesar’s properties don’t carry the network and neither does MGM. No one does.
WSOP being aligned with ESPN was part of the dream for a lot of recreational players. Hardly anyone is going to call their cable provider to add CBSSN and even if they do have it they may not know it as it is buried in the 400’s or bumblefuck. The WSOP will learn as time goes on how important their presence on ESPN was.
Maybe now that one of their key brands is on CBSSN Caesar's will start to carry the channel in their hotel rooms.

"Donk down, that’s what you say to someone after they have lost 28K straight?" - Phil Hellmuth, online
I’m not a poker pro like most here, but a few comments...
- I did not like to when WSOP broke up the main event a few years back, lame.
- I really do like this years switch to October. I think it’s better since the weather is cooler and kids are in school and parents are working. Sure hotel prices might be a little higher, but I don’t care.
- ESPN to CBS sounds horrible, just because I don’t like change and feel it beings at ESPM. CBS will screw it up for sure.
This is probably a net positive for Poker actually, in that with a CBS deal you now have a bigger audience then with ESPN a sports dominated crowd in ways. CBS is a bit more mainstream, and depending on which channel does bring poker to peoples homes again. In theory, unless its hidden on some special Sports CBS only Channel only a few people even get. But if its a CBS that a lot of people can get, I think this is a much bigger Audience then the ESPN sports dominated one. A net positive overall for poker I think, the WSOP is leaving the RIO for the Strip soon. Poker is changing in ways, but CBS instead of the ESPN sports dominated crowd ia actually way better for poker I think. A much more likely to enjoy, and get Poker playing then the lol ESPN wanna see a game bro, Sports crowd.
