Right now I'm a little less excited about Zed than I was a few weeks ago.

On the bright side, they are trying to be more careful than Top Shot, and not just jumping into quick money grabs. They want this whole thing to last, whereas Top Shot took a "do it now, worry about it later" approach, and you see how that worked out.

The problem is that, like Top Shot, their communication hasn't been particularly good (though not as bad as Top Shot), and the month wait between the drop and breeding (which wasn't announced) was a mistake. They should have worked out quickly what they wanted to do with breeding, and then done it. There was no need for this delay, and it just sapped a lot of the enthusiasm.

I understand that they didn't want the breeding to run wild, and then saturate the market with horses, but they didn't need this long to figure out how to handle it.

We also can't forget the Topshot-like tech fail with their first drop, between the advantage mobile users got, to the bizarre shareable link which got shared on Reddit and made the tiered drop system useless.

In short, I'm not exactly optimistic that they're going to pull this off correctly. It always baffles me how some people can be both technically competent AND good at viral marketing, yet so bad at operations. Operations is really the easiest part.

YES, zed is still the best/funnest NFT project out there

best bet is just to try to get a z9 or 10 during the drop - it'll be anywhere from $130-200 (prices aren't known in advance)

Go on the left, scroll down, and filter for gender, genotype, and bloodline.

At the moment, the cheapest Z6 Finneys (the two horses I have, one of each gender) are 0.38 and 0.39 ETH, respectively.

This means I've lost money on my horses so far, but this was due to ETH's decline, which happened to all crypto, so I would have also lost that money had I let it sit in my wallet. From an ETH standpoint, it's actually about flat compared to what I paid.

Not sure which gender Moneymaker bought for $37k, but the Z1 Nakamoto fillies are going for minimum 18 ETH, which would be a nice profit. However, you can have a Z1 Nakamoto colt for about 10 ETH, which is again about flat compared to what Moneymaker paid.

Personally I wasn't willing to risk that much money in a project like this, which could easily go Top Shot on us. However, I was willing to throw a few thousand at this, hope to make some money, and have fun while I'm at it. It will be very interesting to see where this goes after both the 2nd drop and breeding opening. It's possible that these Genesis horses will go up in value, and I'll feel like a genius for having invested $3k into them. It's also possible that, even with the restrictions placed on breeding, the market will become too saturated, or people will simply lose interest, and the entire market will collapse.

I wanted enough money invested to where it will mean something if I profit, yet not so much that it will make me cry if the whole thing falls apart. So $3k was a good number to lay down for that. I'll try to score some Z9-10 in the next drop.

you are ignoring stud fees that your colt can produce 3x/month, and what you can get from your female’s offspring

you hit the jackpot being able to get both a male and female genesis horse

that’s pretty much passive income every month Zed Run remains a thing, which I think will be for a long time

I wish more pfa users would get into this - would be better for everyone if all our horses could fuck, especially since the new limits have been in place

you can send your horse to someone else’s stable and get a discount on breeding and then just send the horses and offspring BACK

I'm confused. I saw unraced Z6 Genesis Finneys on opensea last night for 0.4 ETH?

Maybe I messed something up, but I'm seeing one right now for 0.47 ETH so close enough. Whatever, I'm not selling now, and I have a male/female combo, so as long as it doesn't crash, I'm good.

there will always be under cutters looking to cash out just like on TS

and always check on zed run if the horse for sale is actually unraced or not

people will list an unraced horse on opensea and then immediately put them in a griffin race to see their odds

if they’re good, they can just immediately unlist

a lot of “unraced” horses have been sold that have raced several times

this drop they are likely selling 1/3 of the remaining genesis ponies so there may be as few as two more shots at free money

the cheapest horse you can buy tomorrow will set you back $123, while the average resale price on the secondary market is around $900

this is like getting in top shot back in late February, early March

if you hadn’t already registered your stable before Wednesday at 12:01am you can’t pahticipate, but if you all don’t at least try to get a pony the last couple drops you literally hate free money

even you have to go in with a group, split it 5 ways, you each pay about $30-$35 after gas and you each make 7x or so on your money for a z10
