If these searches were being done in good faith, then I would disagree. However, given the existence of civil forfeiture, where dogs are sometimes used to create such a bogus pretense, I agree that this practice should end.

In general I would like to see recreational drug use decriminalized, but not the sale of recreational drugs. Kind of like online poker currently stands in most states -- not illegal to play, but illegal to run a site.

I don't have a problem with drug dogs being used to catch actual drug dealers in the act. I do have a problem with the dogs being used as a tool for civil forfeiture theft, or to arrest people carrying around small amounts of drugs for personal use. (However, driving while under the influence of drugs should be aggressively prosecuted.)
