WSOP 2021 is happening -- but starting 4 months late

The WSOP will take place from September 30 through November 23, though these dates are tentative, and subject to change if COVID or state regulations make this impossible.

It will still be at the Rio -- probably the final year there before moving to the new Caesars Conference Center on the strip.

It is not clear how many people will be allowed at the table, if vaccination will be required, or if masking will be required.

The WSOP usually begins in late May, so it's 4 months late.

They will still be holding a WSOP online starting July 1, though it will be a scaled down version compared to the one last year, which was meant to replace the live WSOP (and the oddly they held another in December).

I will not play at the 2021 WSOP if there's a masking requirement. Next year I will be 50, and eligible for the seniors event for the first time.

Well, this is very disappointing. For the first time in my life, I can afford to play in a bracelet event (my first one). I imagined having Mike Schneider to my left, and Dan Druff to my right. I had everything planned out for this summer, but now it's not going to happen. Oh well, I will still go in June and play 40-80 at the B. Maybe I'll have the chance to check raise Ian J. Hopefully, next year it will return to the normal schedule.

I think there will be masks because ...

A) Caesars will most likely still require masks in the Casinos.

B) The WSOP will make the judgement that more players will stay away if there is no mask requirement. I think the stance you’re taking here Druff, while many will agree with you that the mask mandate is not needed, they will still show up and wear one. If I am wrong in this judgement refer back to A.

You're probably correct. There is some chance this will not be the case by September, if COVID recedes enough to where it is deemed pretty much over. September 30 is still almost 6 months away, and a lot can happen by then.

Amazingly, when I posted my opposition to showing up to the WSOP if there's a masking requirement, many got angry and bashed me for it! Why should they care? I wasn't asking others to stay home, nor was I asking people to refuse to cooperate with masking rules. I simply stated my own personal preference not to play long days of poker in a mask the entire time. Do I not have the right to make that decision, or express my intention to do so?

Some people get so triggered by the mask topic that they immediately snap into insults, without bothering to stop and think about what the other person is saying.

If I get Mike Schneider and IanJ at my starting table at a limit holdem event, that's a pretty bad draw. Though my all-time worst draw at a limit holdem event was at a 10k, where there were 7 people at the table with bracelets (including me), and of those other 6, five of them had a bracelet in a limit event!

You may say, "Well, it's a $10k", but you'd be surprised how many fish enter those events who are absolutely dead money. Those $10k limit holdem events are a weird mix of fish and really good players. I've actually gotten some super soft starting tables... including in 2019, where I was sadly picked up and moved to the toughest table in the event! Ugh.
