WSOP 2021 is happening -- but starting 4 months late

    https://www.reviewjournal.com/sports...-fall-2319878/

The WSOP will take place from September 30 through November 23, though these dates are tentative, and subject to change if COVID or state regulations make this impossible.

It will still be at the Rio -- probably the final year there before moving to the new Caesars Conference Center on the strip.

It is not clear how many people will be allowed at the table, if vaccination will be required, or if masking will be required.

The WSOP usually begins in late May, so it's 4 months late.

They will still be holding a WSOP online starting July 1, though it will be a scaled down version compared to the one last year, which was meant to replace the live WSOP (and the oddly they held another in December).

I will not play at the 2021 WSOP if there's a masking requirement. Next year I will be 50, and eligible for the seniors event for the first time.

Hopefully the masking won't be mandatory by then, and I can pahticipate.

    I will be there if:

    1> I am vaccinated
2> The US / Canada boarder is open
3> I feel the virus is under control and I will be safe.

Instead of a mask, wear a full-on hazmat suit.

    You know, you want to.

Well, this is very disappointing. For the first time in my life, I can afford to play in a bracelet event (my first one). I imagined having Mike Schneider to my left, and Dan Druff to my right. I had everything planned out for this summer, but now it's not going to happen. Oh well, I will still go in June and play 40-80 at the B. Maybe I'll have the chance to check raise Ian J. Hopefully, next year it will return to the normal schedule.

I think there will be masks because ...

    A) Caesars will most likely still require masks in the Casinos.

    B) The WSOP will make the judgement that more players will stay away if there is no mask requirement. I think the stance you’re taking here Druff, while many will agree with you that the mask mandate is not needed, they will still show up and wear one. If I am wrong in this judgement refer back to A.

You're probably correct. There is some chance this will not be the case by September, if COVID recedes enough to where it is deemed pretty much over. September 30 is still almost 6 months away, and a lot can happen by then.

Amazingly, when I posted my opposition to showing up to the WSOP if there's a masking requirement, many got angry and bashed me for it! Why should they care? I wasn't asking others to stay home, nor was I asking people to refuse to cooperate with masking rules. I simply stated my own personal preference not to play long days of poker in a mask the entire time. Do I not have the right to make that decision, or express my intention to do so?

Some people get so triggered by the mask topic that they immediately snap into insults, without bothering to stop and think about what the other person is saying.

    Sad!

If I get Mike Schneider and IanJ at my starting table at a limit holdem event, that's a pretty bad draw. Though my all-time worst draw at a limit holdem event was at a 10k, where there were 7 people at the table with bracelets (including me), and of those other 6, five of them had a bracelet in a limit event!

You may say, "Well, it's a $10k", but you'd be surprised how many fish enter those events who are absolutely dead money. Those $10k limit holdem events are a weird mix of fish and really good players. I've actually gotten some super soft starting tables... including in 2019, where I was sadly picked up and moved to the toughest table in the event! Ugh.

I'm sure Druff has had many "gross experiences" at the Rio in Las Vegas.

Played 4.5 hours at the Encore this weekend with a mask and a neck gaiter as a post-vaccination gift to myself. Between the 2 mile walk for me to get from my hotel to the Encore Poker Room plus sitting there with the mask on for that long period of time, it was too much.

I'm sure it becomes easier over time, but I agree with Druff - will be hesitant to go back, even for the WSOP, unless the mandatory mask requirement is lifted.

I wasn’t expecting the CDC to say masks are optional for vaccinated people this early. I think there is a real possibility that masks may be optional in the casinos by the time the WSOP comes around. Maybe they could say anyone not wearing a mask may be asked to show their vaccination card. It will become the new normal for a majority of people to no longer wear masks by then, so I don’t think it’s much of a stretch if things progress as they are now. Druff may be in the 3K and 10K limit after all. Well, if they keep those at least.

Wow, I didn't realize Ellix Powers knew me or discussed me.

    Interesting revelation.

Too bad I can't ask him about it now.

The chance I'll be at the WSOP has just gone way up, due to the masking changes in Nevada.

Always enjoy when you deal to me. I ran well every single time you did, except for the 2019 Main, when all the luck was sucked up by eventual winner Hossein Ensan, who was sitting next to me. I remember you dealt a bunch of pocket pairs, 88 to me, 33 to Ensan, and like 2 others. Huge pot ran out, I got out on the flop, but Ensan flopped a set. Guess there was no beating the guy that year, even with you dealing. I did double off him when I first got to the table, though, so I guess I can hang my hat on that.

Hope to see you this year.

Plexiglass is down at most casinos on the strip. To my knowledge, only the Venetian still has the plexi on the poker tables.

Also I know that MGM properties are not forcing patrons to wear masks. Not sure about Caesar's or Boyd properties but I'm sure they'll follow along quickly if they haven't already.

I also think there is 0.0% chance that WSOP will require any kind of proof of vaccination as I think it would hurt their numbers pretty significantly, and honestly they dgaf about their customers, they just want their money.

Still in AC it’s all masked up in Caesers & Borgata (MGM). But rates are flying and my comp nights are going. Booked as much Shit as you can for Vegas and if you have to cancel just put a reminder in your phone.

I agree with you Hoosier that they will not make it mandatory to show vaccination cards. I think to make everyone feel comfortable without putting up glass on every table, they may say if you are not wearing a mask you may be asked to show your vaccination card. Then if you can’t provide that, you will be asked to put on a mask.

Things can change a lot in the next few months. But I think they may want to appease any fear of non- vaccinated people not wearing masks. Something sort of in the middle like that.
