Shawn Bradley paralyzed from bicycle accident

    https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...-bike-accident

Shawn Bradley was hit by a car while on his bike, very close to his house, resulting in paralysis.

This occurred on January 20th, but was just announced today. Thanks, Biden!

Bradley is 7'6", and they actually analyzed his DNA to see what caused his unusual height. It was determined that it wasn't due to any kind of disorder, but simply a very rare combination of genetic variants which determine height. Much of this was due to his dad being 6'8" and his mom being 6'0". He's Mormon, and went on a 2-year mission to Australia prior to playing in the NBA.

He wasn't particularly athletic, and wasn't muscular despite his height, and was often manhandled by stronger centers, most notably Shaq. In fact, when asked which NBA player he'd crush the most 1-on-1, Shaq named Bradley.

Bradley was a great shot blocker due to his height, but did little else. He retired in 2005, shortly before his 33rd birthday.

There is some possibility he will get some motion back due to physical therapy and surgery, but at the moment it's not looking good.

Bradley was (in my opinion) the best player on "NBA Jam Tournament Edition", due to his tremendous size in the game. If you played as the 76ers and got him "on fire", you could block almost every shot attempted against you, and then make an almost guaranteed 3-pointer on the other end.

sad story....but i'm really surprised you don't see more of this.

people ride their bikes on narrow secondary roads when peeps in cars drive 50 mph where i live. all it takes is a poor driver coupled with the bicyclist hitting a rock or something else for something awful to happen.

even if the driver isn't a poor one the situation is risky for all involved when you have to drive around the bike peeps and literally going in he other lane to get by. these are two lane roads where everyone speeds. speed limit 35 means you go 50. even if they slowed down to 35 it's still a danger.

lmao at the size of bike paths if there even is one.

fuck these cyclists. ...they deserve to die............ride your bike in the park

One of the absolute worst things about Portland (behind trash, homeless, antifa, weather, graffiti) is all of the fucking entitled bikers who ride rain or shine.

Everyone I know has a story about nearly colliding with a biker in situations like this.

Always cracked me up that Bradley was the fifth NBA guy in Space Jam that got his powers taken away by the aliens.

(sorry desertrunner, it's a movie with NBA players though, NOT an advertisement).

Hopefully he had all the kids and wives he wanted before getting clipped.

Yeah except he was struck from behind by a car. It was a car accident. It's not like they couldn't see the guy

Friend of mine whos a veterinarian specializing in horses was out running a few yrs ago go smashed by a driver not paying attention and basically left for dead in a ditch.. They thought she wouldnt walk again due to the several spinal damage plus multiple leg fractures and an arm nearly mangled.. She was able to walk 18months later.. Sadly she will never be able to work as a vet again due to the one arm damaged.. Shes greatful to be alive.. Driver was charged with vehicular assault and leaving a scene and got probation.. Insurance paid a shitty 250K to her for ruining her life..

Some bike riders are indeed stupid mofos.. Ive nearly smashed a couple mexicans late at night driving rideshare for doing stupid shit crossing traffic when they should or do know they have to follow traffic laws.. One time cop saw the idiot and "pulled" him over (literally went left across traffic on a red light as if he could do whatever he wanted)

Unrelated but Tiger Woods looked really fed up said hi on camera other day. Doesn't look like he will be able to play any time soon. I remember Bradley.

It's only been 3 months. That's his frustration talking. Nobody claimed he'd be back soon. The rehab and recovery process for his injuries take at least a year.

So sad. Some of the best memories with my Son were going to the games to watch Mark, Stockton and Malone. Good times. May His Memory Be Eternal.

At least a busy street. Thats what I was taught in my youth, back before helmets gave people a false sense of security. Ride on the side streets, cross a major street at a crosswalk if ya have to.

People here in Portland will rip your head off for that type of thinking now. Retards ride those fucking rent-a-scooters down main roads here.

    lol OreGon is WOKE

rent-a-scooters is lol, green as can be Eco Friendly as Portland is and apparently full of hippies too huh. Anyway yeah Oregon itself was beautiful it looked like, passing through it to me. I didn't go to Portland or stay in Oregon at all but it was pretty. Oregon not Portland reminded me of Vermont in the summer actually in April. You all speak so bad about living there and I lol and wonder to myself, I wonder what these same Oregon hating people would have thought of New York City growing up next to it all your life and i kinda laugh to myself at that. Totally different, Oregon seems more Vermont/Pretty etc to me.

I unexpectedly really like Oregon and Washington State for that matter

I saw he died, I had no idea it was on a bike. What’s the fucking odds? If I listed off 5 guys I thought of as the tallest NBA guys. those two would be on list with Bol and Yao.

I love the PacNW as a whole. My favorite area of the country to be in. The city itself was great until Trump. Then it started slowly going from "Keep Portland Weird" to "Keep Portland Radical Left". Covid + protests accelerated that. I feel like it will be cyclical and the city will be back to 2012 level coolness within a few years.
