So every time I hear...children separated from their parents, I envision a bunch of 6 year olds crying for their mother.

Of course that’s not true, they are mostly aged 15 to 17...saw a picture in the paper and the “children” were playing soccer outside and most had mustaches. Sure they are technically children but they aren’t really helpless.

Sucks that they are stuck in those facilities but it’s a tough situation for Biden, just as it has been as long as I can remember.

I am grunching what has already been said in this thread so maybe this is a moon landing, but it was recently explained to me by someone on the inside exactly why there is an explosion of unaccompanied minors. Basically the way it works right now is if you are an unaccompanied minor (anyone under 18) and you are apprehended at the border, all you have to do is have an adult contact on this side of the border that will vouch you are a family member (no one ever checks if this is true), and they can legally adopt you and you are a US citizen. It really is that simple. And the rest of the world pretty much knows this and it is just a free for all. And when I say the rest of the world, that is what I mean literally. The person I know on the inside says they are seeing kids from India, Asia, Africa, etc. etc. etc.

On the other hand, if you come with your parents you can stay as a family unit, but that just means you all stay together and go through the normal immigration (and possible deportation) process together. So if you know someone on this side to take them in (or even to just pretend they will), there is a giant incentive to have your child cross unattended as far as fast tracking them to becoming a US citizen.
