I read there are more soldiers in Washington than Iraq/Afghanistan.
It seems like this won’t be a joyous celebration of the transfer of power.

First when bush was doing it, and I was just talking about the Arab spring in my thread where we were celebrating it. My thought at the time is they’ll just vote in a theocrat anyway? Realistically, I think Trump walks away from the 6th if nothing further happens. I think the Senate impeachment and all that is simply held out as a threat. It never happens unless something else happens. Clearly extremists aren’t thinking people, but if you want Trump 2024, it’s much better if nothing occurs violent.
I don’t think it matters whether there is violence or not. The damage is the sight of the National Guard and the narrative.

I always argued the way to peace in the Middle East was to promote or subsidize industry. If a teenager has a job and some reason for optimism he is less likely to hold that grudge about our carpet bombing his family.
Personally, I didn’t think it would be fair that Iraq should have a blue collar middle class work force and not the US.

When the public learned of Nixon’s participation in Watergate they could not believe it. To that point the public generally trusted their leaders. Especially the President.
I saw some documentary where a reporter went to bars in downtown Detroit or similar and the working guys refused to believe. Die hard Nixon supporters. Proud.
