A Jersey Mike's just opened a mile or 2 from me, but I'm not sure I'll ever eat there, since there are all the burger & chicken joints down the street, and an impressive Italian deli right around the corner. I'd get a chain burger before a chain pizza before a chain sub, generally because that feels like the order where the least can go wrong. Also, like someone mentioned, in the NE, you don;t need to hit a chain for shit like this, there's always a local place that can fit the bill better, and the internet helps you find out which places they are.
That said, last time I had any of those was in 2003 (as far as I can figure), at a Subway in Providence, RI just down the street from Lupo's before a Rancid show. There was some sort of festival going on, and someone like Angelo Dundee or Goody Petronelli signing shit at a table down the street, some sort of Italian festival or some shit was going on. I almost certainly got a BMT on wheat with Doritos.
edit: sources confirm it was Angelo Dundee.

Whoever recommended Capriott’s, please give yourself 1000 bonus points, that sandwich was awesome.
There will always be at least 3 Italian or Greek joints within 500 yards of one another in the NE. Garret spoke the truth too. I can’t imagine why I’d buy a chain sub. I have a memory of being in Foxwoods and watching the Subway kid count the number of slices he put on your sub. The number of pickles. Just awful.
I swear it was 2008. I remember it as clearly as you do your chain experience. It is such a rarity fortunately.
Why doesn’t Florida or California have independent sub shops?
There is a Subway near me. Like you I prolly will never go in. I noticed the other day every table and chair has been removed from the store. Covid. I don’t know if that was a franchisee order. They are so fucked. I know it’s a local Indian family. Shame. It’s probably everything they own.
Subway’s tuna doesn’t actually have tuna in it, suit claims- https://nypost.com/2021/01/28/subway...na-in-it-suit/
Subway really is the nut low of not just subs but all fast food IMO.
I remember sporadically having it as a kid, and even then being like "meh". Fast forward to my broke college years around the turn of the century, and I lived right by one. A roommate briefly worked there, it was in a shopping complex next to our apartment. He just stamped up a bunch of cards and gave them to us for free subs. Free was fair value. After he got fired for inevitably stealing too much, I would still occasionally pop-in and buy a sub, since it was close.
Right around that time, the Safeway grocery store that was the anchor store of that complex began their sandwich stations in the deli, which they still do to this day. For like a buck or 2 more, their sandwiches absolutely blew Subways out of the water. Quality was leaps and bounds better. Figured it had to be sad to be a "restaurant" getting outclassed at your game by the fucking chain grocery store next door.
