any means possible
I've been prescribed stimulants for the last 15 years.
Go ahead and top that bitches
Mississippi Grind is the best poker movie since Rounders. It captures the desperation and degenerey, Add a sincon of magical realism. And low production value. I rank it at the top of my range.
people tend to fawn over rounders because there are basically zero consequences for the protagonist's decisions beyond a mild ass whipping, so they feel like its safe to empathize with him.
arguably one of the most toxic movies ever made. as the roman senators all saw themselves as prospective ceasars, every white male who ever wore a baseball cap backwards with dark sunglasses at a poker table sees himself as mike mcdermott.
the documentary 'poker bustouts' should arguably be rebranded as 'rounders fans'.

Oh man, I will say Rounders has drama, but still a gambling movie to me. And what a perfectly done film, I mean really, what a story, characters, music, everything, I just cant get enough of Rounders, wholly all time classic, right next to Casino.
What I would like to hear is Druff, Traderuski (I spell it wrong on purpose) and some of the other poker pros just discuss the movie one time and mull over their favorite parts, the technicals, etc.
Also, a briliant Part 2 would have been Mike going to Vegas and playing in the WSOP, but we all know the story line would have fizzled as the movie went on. A part 2 wouldnt have hold to the original. But what a movie, I just love it, its top shelf all the way.

UG is a degenerate gambling movie.
Rounders is an industry-friendly poker fantasy movie, where the guy who beats the game dirty when he doesn't even have to (Worm) gets his shit kicked in always, and the guy with the pure skill and Sherlock Holmes abilities (Damon) always wins in the end. And the bad guy is Russian.
Both are great fun.
For a little bit of a different take on the topic, Free Solo is a helluva gambling movie/doc.

no lie i think ive watched that documentary at least a dozen times...usually when i was running like complete shit...always showed me things could be A LOT fucking worse...
even though it was low budget thought the film makers actually did a good job bringing in the chick, melissa (?), and the old guy, bill (?) who were successful to contrast against the guys who would suck dick for a comp or stake...
i actually do wonder what happened to all the people in that documentary...

i will say this; rounders is exquisitely filmed, well acted, well directed, the dialog is good, and it captures a lot of the gestalt of what 99.9% of amateur poker players want to experience in terms of games, bankrolls, culture, so on.
but to anyone saying 'i like rounders, poker is so cool' i would like to draw your attention to how there is one (1) scene in a casino poker room and it features a bunch of regs colluding against.. wait for it... literally you. the outsider. the tourist. like jesus christ take the hint folks.
mike mcdermott was about to get literally fucking killed and in his wisdom decides to gamble his way out of it. then when he somehow flips 4 rolls his way to buying back his fucking life, HE GETS GOADED INTO GAMBLING AGAIN. and the film rewards him for this behavior, this is him outsmarting the gordian knot.
childish, cowardly, disingenuous nonsense.

^^^ Good review and I get it. It’s one of my fav movie for all the different levels and elements, not just the gambling part.
yeah full disclosure i watch it like probably once every year or two and its always enjoyable. the aftertaste is unpleasant but what can you do.
