From a ringer podcast today, Jackie MacMullen telling a story:
Thats a good summary right there of Kyrie. Take the brainpower of a very stoned teenager, add millions of dollars and the current wave of player entitlement and you have the flakiest athlete ever.So I will tell you this, I was thinking about all the conversations I’ve had with Kyrie through the years, one of them I had, I don’t know, two years ago, we got into an argument about, you know, something.
And he’s like, “Well, there shouldn’t be an NBA draft. Players should be able to go wherever they want to go. We’re not, you know, someone’s property.”
And I’m like, “Yeah you are, dude. That’s the way it works. That’s why you get paid all these millions.”
I think Kyrie might be legit mentally ill. Not in some minor way. Or he’s the most entitled kid ever.
The crazy part is an NBA team is the ultimate rich mans toy. You get to hold court and are visible.
All the billionaires want NBA teams. Yet you go from total control in whatever business you piled up all that money to being held hostage by mercurial kids. Kind of crazy. If you’re a new owner, you legit need $10 billion to even be a real player.
I don’t know why they want NBA teams as opposed to other sports where any one player isn’t going to sink you.
The older owners paid $200-$300 million for teams. These guys like Fertitta are legit too poor to own a winner at this point because of what they paid.

A team like the Rockets paid all that luxury cap money and fell short. You need minimum $10 billion to play in this build a super team league. You have to be able to eat $200 million in luxury tax multiple years in a row.
This Nets guy is rich enough to go for it and see if he can win the championship. Fertitta is doing everything like a guy who can’t afford this shit. His preference for Oladipo is because he’s expiring.
There is the basketball end of things, but the finances of all this blow my mind also. If I’m Fertitta, I’m happy to be out of Harden, hope for some picks and financial stability, and look to flip the team. As rich as he is, he ain’t rich enough to play this game.
Just blows my mind these super wealthy guys are risking hundreds of millions annually on the mental health of a James Harden or Kyrie. That Nets guy just bet the next decade on James and Kyrie. That feels crazy. At least he can afford it. Fertitta is lucky he got out alive for the moment.
All the talk is he didn’t want to deal with Morey. It’s possible he wanted the picks and future swaps and didn’t feel like dealing with Simmons contract and actually winning for a few seasons. Winning is expensive. You’ll get it back on team valuation eventually, but if you’re treading water like Fertitta, winning might be better put off for awhile.

I hear ya blake...and again watching him take 20 minutes of game time tonight to actually score any points he's still better than kyrie...trust me as a boston fan...you might get really fucking annoyed at simmons, but you will absolutely hate your team with kyrie...it's like san said, he had a tough time watching the Cs when kyrie was there...i feel the same way...i was glad to see him leave and the Cs get a guy like kemba...
@BCR...good find...thats fucking nuts...thought he was pretty loaded (not that being a billionaire isnt loaded) since he owned the golden nuggets in LV and AC...even though i agree with san about casinos being a dogshit thing to own, i know the nugget in AC does really well for what it is...
probably a reason he decided to go young at head coach as well...didnt want to pump out money for a guy like donovan/nash/etc who woulda cost him a helluva lot more than silas...
im pulling for silas...hope he does well after he got tubbs the fuck outta there...
Caris Levert out indefinitely with mass on kidney. Assuming it arose during physical with new team. Hopefully it’s nothing, but crazy if getting traded might have allowed him to be diagnosed earlier.
Already regretting this, even though it's just been two games.
Not sure how long it's been since Harden has given a shit, but holy fuck is he lethal when dialed in. Even in autopilot he can have 40 before you know it.
Still give them little chance at beating the Lakers in a series unless the offense is so dialed in that they can simply outscore teams while giving up 120 nightly, which doesn't seem entirely farfetched. Durant is unstoppable when he's humming and has outplayed LeBron in a finals before.
DeAndre Jordan is not good enough and will continue to get demolished by competent bigs.
Joe Harris is going to enjoy the rest of this year launching wide open threes.

Boston had young talent that was a year or two away from really clicking; Brooklyn now has the two best offensive players in the league to complement Kyrie.
I get your point but I just don't think Kyrie will be able to fuck them up with histrionics, complaints about shots like he did in Boston.
KD and Harden are immeasurably more valuable than him. If Kyrie is even decent in this system watch out.

This Sexton man, he just had a Dame type game. Was fun.
Thanks for saving your best game of the year for us Bron. Ffs he couldn’t miss anything. Cavs actually played well, he was just too on.

Funny you mention the Portland game. I bet Portland not realizing most of their starters were out, and then they fell down big immediately and were down pretty big at half with no expectation they would come back and cover (which they didn't), but I saw the 2nd half over was only 112, which seemed insanely low so I bet it.
The 2nd half total was only 116, so not that far off, but I won the bet and pushed overall.
Also, with these same matchupback to backs I have actually been following a strategy of taking the opposite side of the team that won the first game (taking the points, not money line), and I feel it has been working well overall, although I haven't been keeping super close track.
I watched that one also. He was better tonight. Clearly the Bucks are much better so it’s relative, but he had 46 on 26 shots tonight with only two free throws and very few bunnies. He was 7/11 from 3 and hitting freakish fade away threes.
Obviously I rarely missed a LeBron game for a dozen years playing for us and he takes over many a game, but this was one of the better pure shooting games I’ve ever seen him have. He really single handedly beat us. He was 19/26 and the other four starters shot under 35%. I can’t believe I’m watching this shit still in his 18th season. I was in my late twenties when I started watching this kids high school games on TV and he’s still the best player in the world. Between him and Tom Brady, I don’t expect to see this type of career again in my life. If I do I’ll be dying of natural causes by the time it’s ending.
I am truly curious what value Andre Drummond has as the Cavs look to shop him/Love/ and they’ll be giving away Javale.
Drummond is still Drummond with his inefficient offense, but I heard rumors of Charlotte being interested, and any time you get Jordan and Kupchak involved, it’s almost as exciting as getting Sacramento involved.
Drummond has played decent defense this year and the rebounding is always there. I’ve went from thinking he’d be a buyout to having some hope he might possibly fetch a late first from someone dumb.
I assume it’s bs, but rumors also have Love in play. I can’t imagine anyone taking him off our hands without us attaching an asset. I’d be thrilled if we could give him away and get him off the books.
I’m really happy with this rebuild so far. We have 4 guys under 22 I really like. It’s bizarre to have multiple Cleveland teams being ran well, but right now, the Indians, Cavs, and the Browns are all under fairly competent management. That’s never happened.
It’s a shame Gilbert owns the Cleveland team in a capped sport instead of him owning the Indians. He made so much money last year under the radar during Covid year, but he’s now the second wealthiest owner in the NBA by a wide margin. He’s closer to Ballmer than third wealthiest is to him. Dude has $50 billion now.
With his desire to win, it’s a shame we can’t attract free agents as the luxury tax would be pennies to him.
