Isai Scheinberg on poker HOF ballot for first time

    https://www.pokernews.com/news/2020/...nees-38431.htm

    The poker HOF nominees are:

New: Lon McEachern, Norman Chad, Isai Scheinberg, Patrik Antonius.

Old: Eli Elezra, Antonio Esfandiari, Chris Ferguson, Ted Forrest, Mike Matusow, Huck Seed, Matt Savage.

Savage, Scheinberg, McEachern, and Chad are not being nominated as players, but rather for what they did for the poker community.

I have softened on Isai over the years. While I disagree with the way pre-Amaya Pokerstars handled some things, I have also learned that Isai truly loved poker, gave up other possible profit avenues in order to keep the poker product on Stars pure, and treated his employees extremely well. Isai also ran the company far better and far more ethically than the new owners, Amaya. Pokerstars had a tremendous impact on the game, and Isai does belong in the HOF.

I like Norman Chad, but I don't think he's a HOFer. He is just well known. Same with McEachern, who also deserves some negative points for his weird support of Stones through all the controversy.

I also like Savage personally, and I think he does a great job as tournament director. Does he belong in the HOF? I'm not sure.

    Regarding the players:

    Mike Matusow: Yes

Eli Elezra: No. There's even some question if he's an overall winner in the game.

Chris Ferguson: Normally I would say yes, but he caused irreparable harm to poker through his actions with Full Tilt, and has yet to explain himself.

    Antonio Esfandiari: Yes

Huck Seed: Maybe. The one strike against him is that he didn't stand the test of time, and basically was irrelevant after the 2000s were over. He was a huge force in the '90s and '00s though.

Ted Forrest: Despite his financial problems over the last decade or so (which even plagued greats like Stuey Ungar), I'd say yes.

The only inductee (apparently they only induct one now): Huck Seed

While Seed is deserving, there was some snickering on Twitter among 2010s poker media types, given an incident he had in 2012 with Pokernews reporter with Mickey Doft.

    From 2018 Twitter:

Mickey Doft is the younger brother of former Pokerstars high stakes player "What_is_7x6", whose real name is Elie Doft.

Really is more of a club than a Hall of Fame. I understand Elezra getting more votes than Chris Ferguson because of the Full Tilt stuff. But how can he get more than Esfandiari, Matusow, Antonius and Ted Forrest? I think with Ted it’s his current money problems and with Mike it’s a combination of money management & politics. Eli seems to have a better relationship with a lot of the voters, even though he has been plagued with owing heaps and not paying people & I don’t think many would argue the other 4 weren’t better players than him. Huck getting in seems fine, but the vote counts really are disappointing.

Druff, your whole explanation of how the voting points work was completely wrong on radio.
Each HOF member gets 10 voting points that they can distribute between the nominees as they see fit. It could be all 10 for a single person or split across a number of nominees.
There are 31 living HOF members. One of those didn't vote. The total number of votes cast was 300. 300/30=10.
Your Daniel theory is, therefore, bollocks.
He has already told the story of an unnamed HOFer who owes Ferguson money. He, apparently promised he would give Ferguson his entire 10 votes as a gesture of good will. What he didn't realise was that they would be publishing the numbers this year and it was clear that he didn't actually give him 10 votes...

They used to put your pic up at Binion’s. I’d have voted for Antonio, but Huck was pretty darn good back in the day.
