INSURED damage estimates are around $2B. This does not take into account flood damage due to storm surge, as generally flood insurance is covered by the federal government and not part of private insured losses.
To put things in perspective, Katrina caused $70-100B in insured damage, to put Isaac in perspective. Even though its been 7 years, the financial numbers on Katrina are still debated. So call it $85B.
Hurricanes are pretty wierd. Katrina was all about storm surge. Andrew (1993) was all about wind (there was no surge or rain, pure wind event). And Isaac was about the rain.
Nothing important right now in the tropics, just a couple systems spinning harmlessly in the tropics.
Updates to follow as events dictate.
What's left of Isaac is back in the Gulf of Mexico...... If it developed again it would not keep the name Isaac. It would be renamed, likely as Nadine.
