The "January 6 Commission" is a political tool.
And if you don't see that, you're a different kind of political tool.
The January 6 incident is already being investigated by two Senate committees, and House panels have already done so. The DOJ has rounded up hundreds of people for prosecution. There is no evidence that this was a premeditated government overthrow. This was an idiotic spontaneous event, committed by morons with no plan or direction (the video inside the Capitol shows this), and those people are now facing justice.
Furthermore, while I don't agree with Trump's remarks that day, he told people that they were going to "march peacefully" over to the Capitol to protest. At no point did he direct or even imply violence or invading the building.
There's really nothing further to investigate. We pretty much know everything. The only thing left is to prosecute the people who committed these crimes, which is ongoing.
Republicans have also stated that they refuse to support such a commission, unless this commission also investigates the 2020 riots, and the Democratic/media support of them. Republicans would also be fine with a separate commission tasked to investigate it.
The concern by the GOP is legitimate. This investigation could easily drag into 2022, and influence the midterm elections. The Demorats want that to happen, and will do everything they can to have January 6 on everyone's minds when they go to the polls in November 2022. If they still insist upon this straightforward, spontaneous event being further investigated, surely they would have no problem with last year's BLM/Antifa riots being similarly investigated, right?
If not, they can eat shit.

They aren't related. So there needs to be separate investigations. And sure there's a ton of investigation that needs to be done about the Summer riots. But no one is rioting right now. Meanwhile the attack on the capitol is a major part of a presently occurring coup attempt. Let's put the whataboutism on pause for a minute and focus on the ongoing crisis.
