Vandy used a female kicker and the team is so bad, she only kicked off once and never got a shot to do anything else. She play GK on the soccer team and goes 5’11” and weighs 180, so bigger than most guy kickers. She had 4 days to practice kicking.



Her one kickoff was awful but the Twitter sphere was a buzz with her achievement, the first female to play power 5 football.

Note, a female kicked was on Colorado but xferred to New Mexico where she kicked actual field goals hence the power 5 qualifier. Also another female kicked for Kent State...among a few lower division kickers as well.

Seems like somewhat of an over reaction by people on how historic this really was, would have been nice if she actually got to kick an XP. Comes off as a publicity stunt as the teams punter could most likely kick off.

This has been tried before in college, albeit at a much smaller school. Back in 1991, the Texas State Fighting Armadillos recruited soccer player Lucy Draper to kick for them. They were low on players as well and added a female kicker. Plus she was much hotter.

I didn’t realize both Serena and Venus played the 203rd ranked man and he beat them both easily...after Serena said she could beat any man ranked above 200.

I think it’s weird that women don’t compete with men in sports like pool and darts which don’t seem like men would have an advantage. There was a woman who won a darts match but that was once.

They compete in horse jumping, sailing and some car racing but really not much.

You're right. If person A is better than person B, A takes the stage. Not so much in years gone bye when skin colour or gender ruled you out.

Vandy at its best should aspire to be Stanford. Problem is it can never get to that point. It’s got Ivy league 500/1000 miles to the north. It also needs to fight for talent out of the ND/BC/Duke pool of players. Stanford gets to be the alpha school in the most desirable B School location in the world maybe short of Boston.

The best Stanford has to deal with is Oregon or USC. Vandy has to complete with Bama/LSU/Florida/Auburn/EtAl.

Vandy should go the stability play and be happy the kids in the program aren’t serial rapists and are an asset to the academia. Mason always delivered on that front. He goes 0-10 next year it may be time but they should have kept him. They could pony up 8M a year and bring in Don Shula and it wouldn’t matter and I bet that’s what they are thinking.

What is this even proving? I don't recall a lot of men complaining that women want to play in their sport. The reason women aren't on men's teams is because the top percentage of female athletes aren't nearly as good as the top percentage of male athletes. I'd be happy to have a girl on the Dodgers if she could hit .300, but that's not going to happen.

This isn't like the old days where very capable black men were shut out of baseball because of their race.

There's no glass ceiling to break here. Just an attention grab, in the vein of, "Look! Equality! Girls can do anything!"


If this chick is better than all male kickers available at the school, let her kick. Otherwise replace her with the best person.
