Former employee steals from armored truck company servicing Ballys AC, gets away with $1.7 million without having to use any weapons, gets caught anyway

I wish I knew the details on this one.

Dante McCluney apparently knew the way Rapid Armored Corporation operated, having worked there before. He and two accomplices allegedly set up a burglary of an armored truck in front of Ballys Atlantic City at 12:15pm on November 5th. In broad daylight, they approached the truck, and somehow were able to get access to $1.7 million in cash, load it into a car, and drive off.

No weapons were used, nobody was assaulted, and no guards were encountered. The money was just stolen.

What remains unclear to me is why the truck was unlocked, and why there were no guards sitting with $1.7 million in cash!

There do not appear to be any current guards who were in on this. McCluney had previously worked for the company, and knew their routine and schedule at Bally's, which gave him the idea to pull this off.

Detectives were able to catch him by looking at footage of the Atlantic City Boardwalk before the burglary, and they found McCluney milling around, and eventually walking toward the truck.

Upon a search executed during his arrest, "most of the cash" was recovered.

I would guess he set up a second number code on the truck while he worked there. Walked up and boom 1.7 million. I would have drove straight to Mexico then took a boat to Columbia where they don’t have extradition.
