i can get behind the cap...but what say you to somebody who went to "liberal arts university", paid $70K per year to get dogshit degree Y and is now slinging coffee at starbucks because their degree is worthless...should those people really have their entire loans forgiven because they decided to major in some dogshit discipline with no path towards earning a living to pay back that loan?

but you gotta figure that if you're 17-18 and going to a university that costs that much you probably know what you are getting into when you choose "dogshit degree Y"...would figure that if you're going to "liberal arts university" that your parent(s) are college educated and know how the game works...and if you are first generation college educated that you view getting into "liberal arts university" as your ticket out of working class life...

again i don't know of anybody specifically who went to "liberal arts university", but ill just say i do know a first generation college person and they saw it as their ticket out of being poor for the rest of their lives...

again i havent really read andrew yang's proposal on this, but thought that the thought behind UBI was that it would replace all of the welfare programs so that is how it would be paid for...so inflation wouldn't be a thing because you would pay for it with already disbursed money, it's just that it would cover all of the population so that people who work jobs and aren't eligible for welfare would get a piece of the pie that they can't get now...

Geez, now I feel like a dumbass. I paid back over $50k for college and law school student loans. And my kid did not take out financial aid. She got a 50% academic scholarship and I paid the rest. I should have floated my loans (which were consolidated at the low low interest rate of 9%) and had my kid take out loans and waited until Warren or Sanders got power and forgave them. Stupid me for being financially responsible.

It used to be you worked your ass off in some vacation spot working 60 hours a week with 4 other dudes (or gals). You drank shit beer and ate bad food and saved all your money and you would show up in the fall and pay for your classes. There were no “loans” other than what you bummed of family. When you got out you started off fresh.

The problem started when the government started to back loans. Sure it means more people opted in for college and there is a benefit to society that can’t be argued. there are other “road to hell” Circumstances such as green lighting colleges and universities boosting the cost by 10000% in 40 years. You take away the easy loans and Whatsamattah U can’t charge 65,000 a year for a basket weaving degree.

More money by the government can’t always be the answer.

Shit if you want to do some good in this country - fuck free college. We should have free Pre Kindergarten and full time Kindergarten In every state. That would do more long term good.

Harvard University has over $50 Billion dollars that they are NOT spending on their students.

Biden should seize these funds not just from Harvard but ALL ivy league schools and colleges from across the country. Use the money to send poor kids to college or to pay off school debt.
