Damnnnnnn. Of course this whole thing could be directed at Bernie as well. At this point if you think Bernie or Warren will win, you're an idiot if you're paying down student loans.

student loan debt relief = worst platform out there.

People who have the highest amount of student loan debt are people with masters and doctoral degrees. It's a bailout for people who are going to go on to be very wealthy. A bailout for the managerial class. A handout to the top 20%. The poorest people in America have zero student loan debt because they didn't go to college.
I actually like Yang's plan. You pay 10% of your income for 10 years and after that if you still have a balance, your debt is forgiven. But that's a lot less flashy than "lol all debt is forgiven".
When the student loan debt forgiveness thing was first brought up last year, I thought it was absolutely insane, for the reasons stated by that fine working gentleman arguing with Warren.
Here's a selection of Facebook SJW responses to me when I argued this issue there in April: https://pokerfraudalert.com/forum/sh...l=1#post828999
Dude! You’re a die hard conservative. Of course you don’t want people to be relieved of personal debt burdens. We get it. You’d probably like to see the return of debtors prisons so that people would be discouraged from taking on too much personal debt.
But this thread is about the *Democratic* Party presidential nomination race. And even Tucker Carlson thinks that a populist program like student loan debt relief is a winning play for a populist candidate like Bernie Sanders.
Plus, Joe Rogan has thrown his support behind Bernie.
Mumbles how do you answer the guy confronting Warren?
He lived a spartan lifestyle in order to responsibly pay off his debt.
At the same time, his buddy didn't give a shit about his own debt, and instead spent his money on nice cars and beautiful vacations.
Warren's plan rewards his irresponsible buddy while fucking this guy for being good and responsible.
You think that's fair?
By all means, though, I hope the Dems take this line against Trump, because they will get clobbered in the swing states, where people don't believe in shit like this.
A LOT of plans advanced by politicians that help a large majority of people inevitably will be after-the-fact disadvantageous to others.
For example...
What do you say to the legions of people who took on student loan from bogus for-profit schools the federal government implicitly gave the seal of approval that they were valid educational institutions by allowing students to get federal direct or subsidized loans to attend, only to realize after the fact that the degree they borrowed up the ass to get is worthless?
Or what about the young people who took on a lot debt to attend legitimate not-for-profit universities to get a college education but because of the neoliberal trade policies that gutted 1/3 of the US’ manufacturing base since the late 1990s has caused entry level wages for college grads to essentially stagnate for almost 20 years while the cost of living has essentially doubled?
What do you say to those people? Because there are a lot more of those people out there ready to go to the polls than the guy who confronted Warren at that campaign event. A LOT more. That’s what your Tucker Carlson is trying to tell you.
BUMP
Because it's back in the news, after Biden won.
Anyone besides Mumbles support this stupidity?
ive warmed to it.
after watching trump bail out the private jet crowd, im pretty comfortable with biden tossing a few shekels to the working class, especially if it shores up his rust belt support.
that plus tiktok videos of kids being let out of cages should go a long way towards creating grass roots enthusiasm for 2024.

I love how this only became a big thing after the election, because the Dems realize swing states hate shit like this.
Curious how sonatine thinks this helps "the working class", though? The working class despises this, and they will typically get zero point zero of the money.

Is this what you think would happen? I guess it depends on how you define working class. Last time I checked the working class wasn't the people with giant student loan debt.
I don't have any problem with debt forgiveness in theory. But like all things, the devil is in the details. And I see no reason to assume it wouldn't be completely gamed by bad actors, and leave the working class in a worse spot. But as you point out, this is what is going on anyways in regards to how our government is actively involved in constantly transferring wealth to the top 1%.
not an unfair point.
at the end of the day i think that the prosperity pool has shrunk to the point where anyone not making dot com money is in the same 'one paycheck away from the streets' boat as the people doing construction or logging or waiting tables.
in a perfect world, people with no student debt would be offered tuition wavers as the other part of this education air drop. that would be nice. my fingers are crossed.

student debt relief is such a fucking joke...again you're just giving money to the upwardly mobile people while turning your back on the working class people...
if you have $1T to do this shit, why not just do a UBI for a year so that every single person benefits? then you get to test out that whole UBI theory while helping the people who need it the most right now...
it's pretty amazing that they don't see this as a viable alternative to student debt relief...like you would have everybody who is struggling right now lining up to vote for you in 2022...
EDIT: again going back to my time at the evil empire...i KNOW that those people (who at this point are probably out of a job) were struggling like crazy getting paid $27-32K per year while cleaning rooms...those people could really use a monthly stipend or whatever...for 99% of those people housekeeping in AC is all that they are going to be able to do...the mobility in that job is damn near 0...

nothing with regard to student loan forgiveness should ever be done before we pass legislation that reins in the absolutely ridiculous costs of college tuition.
colleges only jack up the rates this high because they know the federal government guarantees loans for everyone that needs them.
x 10000000000000000000
sounds like '08 with shit mortgages being backed by fannie and freddie...
why isn't this question asked: why the hell do universities have endowments are in the tens of billions of dollars, but tuitions keep outpacing inflation like crazy...i know endowments are convoluted beasts and that all funds can't be used for general purpose shit, but endowments do have a slug of capital that are just for general purpose...why not use the proceeds from the investments in that money to lower tuitions? or ya know not making your campus like a club med and shit?
i hear ya, but if you're gonna try something fucking crazy now is the time to do it...republicans ain't gonna go there, so it's obviously a non-starter, but if student debt is cancelled and the struggling people are fucked yet again a red wave of epic proportions will be a comin' in 2022...
I think the answer is fairly obvious and pragmatic, so probably both sides hate it. Cap loan repayment at 20% of wages above like 100% AMI for up to 20 years. After that the loans are forgiven.
And LOL at the loser who created this thread.
