Now all card clubs in Los Angeles won't let you in without scanning your ID

I used to live in LA years ago and have frequented places like Commerce, Hollywood Park, the Bike, etc... for over 2 decades. Up until recently we could just walk in and play. Sure there were security guards walking around but there were never guards at the door not letting you in until they take your ID and put it in a machine and/or scan it.

Does anyone else think this is bullshit? Was there some new privacy tracking law passed or something so that now all these clubs(not even casinos they're card rooms)can now track us before we walk in? I don't like this crap, to me it's invasion of privacy.

Hell they don't even do this in real casinos in Vegas. I was at the Wynn a few days ago you could just walk in.

What the fuck is happening in California?

Hustler started doing that during Covid. Circa in Vegas makes you do it too because they are 21 and up only. I remember MGM Detroit scanning my ID and some casinos in Louisiana.

They all started doing it during Covid, and AFAIK Commerce is the only one that stopped doing it.

I actually think the upsides are better than the downsides, as it would probably deter homeless people, and other people you dont want in the casino, as a customer or as the casino itself.

The part where they also force you to show your ID to cash out over $1200 is more annoying, and potentially worrisome. Always some fear you are going to get a tax bill some day that asks you to pay for every time you cashed out big, without counting the losses. But I figure if/when this ever happens it will destroy the casino industry, so I doubt they will allow it to happen.

I haven't determined the magic number yet, but it's higher than $1200.

If I buy in for $2000, they don't ask for ID. If I buy in for $4000, they don't. I haven't tried buying in for $3000 yet.

Regarding the ID checking at the door, that doesn't bother me as much. They're probably doing it for security reasons, so they know the name of every single person in the establishment. Therefore, if someone commits a crime, it's not difficult to identify them. This can especially be useful in cases like follow-out robberies.
