Went and saw the Avett Brothers last night. My buddy has been a big fan for 15 years. Can't lie. He'd put it on and I'd fall the fuck asleep on any road trip. I called it his sad dad music. I like a lot of Americana stuff, but their recorded work put me to sleep.

So I was going with him as a courtesy, plus give me an outdoor venue on the water with alcohol and I can enjoy even a shitty local band.

Totally blown away by the disparity between really not loving their albums and finding the live show amazing. Real cult following singing along to every word. Reminded me of like an educated suburban 2022 deadhead crowd.

So Seth Avett(married to Deb from Dexter irl as random trivia) did this Jim Croce cover. Just killed it. Also had the benefit of being the only song I knew the lyrics to despite loving the entire set. Really shocked how much i enjoyed it. Certainly a band meant to be seen live.

It's interesting. I found myself in a recording studio for some reason way back and was overwhelmed by the talent
in front of me. The music was not my fare (sounding so gay here) but there is no denying the skills when they are up front.

This clip kind of demonstrates that. Talent is special.

It was strange I never liked them. I hate overproduced music, yet their music is so stripped down, it felt like it lacked a pulse and bored me.

Live, just an entirely different story. Wall of awesome sound with cellists and absolutely fantastic. They came right on at 8. Never seen a band start show to the minute like that. Went from song right into next song. Probably an hour in before they stopped to speak to crowd.

Just stage hands bringing instruments to members mid song when necessary. I thought this can’t be more than 90 minutes at this pace. Played well over 2 hours and I was ready to follow them to Philly for tonight’s show. Was checking flights out of Cle into Philly. Literally contemplated it, but buddy had wife at home who was near end of Covid run.

He had just kicked it. She was fine, but he didn’t feel right leaving her to go 400 miles away just in case.

This idiot names himself the Boz and doesn't like music.
Even Boz didn't refer to himself as the Boz

You're saying I was somehow immune to innocuous and banal television in my yout?

I will go toe to toe with you over ever banal and innocuous tv series that I held dear, dear.
