but if we are being totally honest, his lifestyle, his personality, and his music didnt age very well.but yeah VH circa like '83... that was some real shit.
I used to write that little VH thing on notebooks back in seventh grade like a school girl. That whole Fast Times at Ridgemont High period. It truly didn’t age well. It didn’t even last into late high school. It just felt like juvenile music one day and I haven’t owned anything by them in 30 years. Kind of strange.

Like the last two girls I spent a lot of time with were 80s music freaks despite being early 40s now. Just 80s all day, but never a Van Halen song. All the songs I would have beat someone up for listening to in middle school, but now like. I can’t recall the last time someone put on a Van Halen song. Has to be 20 years. You don’t even hear it in a bar with a bunch of middle aged dudes. Idk why that is, but it is? Half the nostalgic stuff is crap, yet no Van Halen. I’d guess that early cancer cost them a boatload of money. They fell off the map even as a nostalgia show.

They just aren’t culturally relevant, which is amazing because they were undoubtedly the biggest band in the world in the early 80s. You don’t hear them as the background of movies or sports or anything. I was watching golf a few weeks ago and they used two Paul’s Boutique songs and I just kind of laughed. Van Halen just disappeared.

I don’t play guitar, so I don’t know how good he is. Clearly he was considered a god by that kid who picked one up and loved by that community

we are very much on the same page. its weird because AC/DC? loved them, owned all their shit on vinyl, aged magnificently. same with judas priest, same with slayer, megadeth, metallica to various extents.

but van halen? yeah honestly not so much. if youre a musician, you have a lot of thoughts about EVH and thats cool, i respect that. but goddamned...

like the drama is a big part of it. eddie claiming he taught their bass player how to play. kicking david fucking lee roth out of the band and replacing him with sammy hagar of all people. the endless horror stories about childish infighting and vitriol and decades long blood feuds, i think 50% of the problem was that and 50% of the problem is lol spandex.

    and then theres this:

just.. not a great brand if you're literally not an early 80s adolescent.
"Birds born in a cage think flying is an illness." - Alejandro Jodorowsky

"America is not so much a nightmare as a non-dream. The American non-dream is precisely a move to wipe the dream out of existence. The dream is a spontaneous happening and therefore dangerous to a control system set up by the non-dreamers." -- William S. Burroughs

like lest we forget, theres that legendary billy squire interview where he talks about how that _one fucking video_ ended his whole career because he leaned into the spandex glam shit and suddenly everyone was like 'wtf is this dude gay?'.

van halen had a lot riding on that look lmao.

Wow! You can tell how young some of you are by referencing which Van Halen record they liked the best. Because, sorry, youngens, IMBO, their first album, which was the most raw and energetic, was the best. And fuck the professional critics who say otherwise!

Tried to listen to them in the Sammy Hagar era, just couldn't get into it.

I did like this one (solo) song from Sammy, mostly because I also hated the national speed limit of 55.

Also funny that Sammy seemed to have thrown his money away on that Cabo Wabo restaurant/cantina idea, and it was a complete fail. He bought out his bandmates, and seemed to be headed for broke, and then suddenly the thing took off. Now he's licensed it to Caesars and made all kinds of money from that brand.

Oh, and Sammy made up with EVH earlier this year. The two hadn't been on speaking terms for a long time: https://ultimateclassicrock.com/samm...en-made-peace/

    false.

the only good song sammy hagar made is this:

    please correct your post.
