Meanwhile in the real world...the most important voice in all of comedy, Dave Chappelle, has piled up Emmys over the last 4 years and won the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor in 2019. The convective tissue of all his specials being poking fun at lgbtq community, specifically the trans community. Sprinkled in along the way he has shot bail to the likes of Louis CK while downplaying the me too movement and calling out cancel culture. He also shits on Trump thoroughly.

But yes comedy is dead, liberals killed it etc.
So one comedian who doesn't get intimidated by this means that comedy is in a good state overall?

BTW, notice he took all kinds of shit from your leftist friends for his specials. Remember?

So you agree that comedians shouldn't be afraid of certain topics? Why are so many comedians terrified, then?

But this isn't about Trump. This is about comedy getting ruined by pussified comedians who are afraid to touch any subject which isn't bashing a white male or Republican.
Todd, when is the last time you actually sat in a comedy club? Pre-covid, obv.
Probably 10 years. I'm not really talking about comedy clubs, though. I'm more talking about mainstream comedy aimed at the masses via television, movies, and streaming services.

There's a notable fear of picking on the left -- a fear which didn't exist previously.

Yes, some comedians refuse to abide by this, but a surprising number do. Sascha Baron Cohen is a good example of a guy who could easily lampoon both sides very intelligently, but he's terrified of ever making the left look foolish.

Druff, how about you have a mid-life crisis and go on a cocaine-fueled hooker-banging tour of America’s greatest cities and post a stream of trip reports on it. Would be great fun to read!

Do you honestly not watch his stuff? Just last year he had a great bit on child sex rings in fashion/Hollywood? He certainly is not afraid.... hes taken a lot of shit regarding his Brüno and Borat characters from the left as well.

Also typically speaking Cohen goes after those in power. His humour is not going to go after minorities or vulnerable people. Hence when he attacks the left it’s the liberal elite/Hollywood. When Cohen attacks the right it’s typically directed at those in power as well. He’s not like those pitiful YouTube shit comedians who go after random idiots on the street. There may be some small skits here and there but they are not his bread and butter.

I will say I preferred Borat on Ali g compared to the movie. The movie was largely scripted which defeats the purpose in my opinion. And is also confusing trying to figure out which parts are genuine.

In the past 10 years, has he even gone after the liberal elite or Hollywood, aside from a few very gentle gags? I'm not expecting him to make jokes about blacks or gays, or attempt to humiliate average people in those communities. However, there are plenty of powerful and privileged liberals who could easily be skewered.
