U-Hauls are is such short supply in California, that people from LA will drive to my little town 3 hours away to rent one. You can rent one from Texas to California one way for $20 though! I've been watching California real estate. There's been a decline in value near the big cities, and an increase in value in outlying areas. This is a complete reversal of what started to occur about 15-20 years ago, where there was a general belief that far from the city = undesirable (due to traffic getting to work, being away from the action, etc).
Now it's going back the other way. It's a combination of the coronavirus ("Wow, being in a big city can be dangerous in a pandemic!") and the riots ("Wow, being in a big city makes it more likely that riots will be near you!")
Basically everyone has decided that they want their families far from all of the bullshit.
